And i dont think it holds water to say that everyones on board with this and that simply fighting extremism is a very serious air strikes many many many people were killed and they were from the Government Forces i think this highlights a problem of the whole rhetoric on the war on terror that was coined obviously initially by the United States because it provides cover for what is ultimately a political agenda now its true that there has been an uptick in terrorist violence in yemen in august weve had for example more than double the Monthly Average of attacks by alqaeda and in fact if you look at whom theyve been targeting then the targeting has been very strongly against the Southern Forces but nonetheless i think one does need to remain skeptical for example and shabwah that been no terrorist attacks at all by either isis or outsider so far this year so to claim that ones fighting terrorism and sharp war and not just political opposition i think doesnt hold water or lets bring her some into the discussion is this really about the u. A. E. Plans as the who these allege and many others actually in yemen to separate the south and the north of yemen once again so that if they draw down those troops they still have a proxy who represent their interests the south. I think it boils down to one thing that the United Arab Emirates have one interest and its to do mean to protect and support the secessionists and to talk about extremism as a kind of pretext we know that islam party is Muslim Brotherhood and its not classified as extremist by anyone other than the United Arab Emirates and the United Arab Emirates have actually classified qatar as an extremist a so do you believe that we dont of course when the president had to comes in public and condemn the United Arab Emirates he is not part of the party he is not fond of those extremists as he said he represents the legitimacy he represents the probably the address for the money that the United Arab Emirates committed itself to bring him back to the sinai and now what happened in the past the United Arab Emirates even prevented him from visiting god and so with this is a well known story that the United Arab Emirates have its own ok were only and is to do what i know is to divide us now to break away from hunters for their own economic interests yes of course i think this is the ultimate for the United Arab Emirates and why would that be doesnt care or even doesnt give attention to the how with the. Why because for economic reasons and because they want to then for dubai ports etc so we know this is a well known story and so by dividing yemen to 2 yemen it would be easier for them to control it and to control this and this has been part of the whole right let me let me bring on how their interests again divide the vienna yemen is ultimately where the resurgence of b. S. T. Forces s. T. C. Forces are taking the country how do you respond to that. Well 1st of all lets see how did the s. T. C. Come about where these calls have came out how long have these calls been on on the ground yes the sea we got to go back track a little after 94 this was an all out occupation 2007 came out of Southern Movement after 2 and 2015 there was a sudden resistance to Southern Resistance gave birth to the Southern Forces and so so the s. T. C. Came about these separatists calls or the secessionists calls have been for over 2 decades this is not a recent through all but what you ate my 10 u. S. Surgeon its on so the u. A. E. So thing that events id like you to address the concern that ultimately the country be divided and one in which someone forces really are a front for you even interests there is not a negation the hudson pointed out in which the u. A. E. Wants to maintain its interest in some of the ports of yemen to clean the toilets thats that is incorrect that is incorrect because the Southern Transitional council has been very efficient working directly with the Saudi Led Coalition as far as the. Anti extremism fronts and the anti o. T. Fronts now these are both Regional Security matters these are not for south yemen alone this is not this is also for north yemen and for the entire region theres over 25000 southern troops in the northern provinces or governorates that are fighting inside areas and other governor governor its this is not just because they Saudi Led Coalition couldnt find any genuine resistance on the ground besides the southern the Southern Forces this is what activated the entire so court trying to kill our transiting in. There are forces or i can see live versus shaking her head i think you want to get in on this go ahead i think theres a lot of truth to what the s. T. C. Spokesman says in terms of long term grievances that go back decades but these were reactivated by the formation of the Southern Transition council which was backed by the United Arab Emirates and we can see where this is heading its not good enough to say that the southerners support the coalition when they are calling back their troops from the very fronts that were just mentioned in the north of yemen to say come and defend us stop fighting the has come and defend us against the northern us even yesterday there was a tweet by the deputy of the Southern Transitional council an even break where he mentioned all 7 if you include a culture governorates of the south and said we will not give an inch now that doesnt sound Like Coalition talk that sounds like us to purchase torn lives if we connect the dots a little bit we have the announcement the u. A. E. You made the announcement it was drawing down its troops kind of around the same time we had all those attacks going on u. A. E. And saudi Oil Interests in the gulf which were blamed on iran. And now we have this battle going on. In aden if you connect the dots do you read through this the u. A. E. Sending a message that he wants perhaps to be closer or not so much at least in conflict with iranian interests and just wants to carve out some interest for itself in the south of of yemen i think we should see this in the broader context which is that the United Arab Emirates has now for several years been recruiting troops across the south of yemen that were not directly answerable to the Yemeni Government of president heady so its very clear that there was some purpose to these troops that may have extended beyond fighting terrorism after all the number of terrorist attacks in chaper as i mentioned it is very few and in fact when the major Counterterrorism Operations began there that only been one that year so far so it was less than one percent but the resources of yemen and a shop were are heavily based in oil and gas and so its very difficult not to see an ultimates commercial and political agenda behind this winds to saudi arabia been relatively silent on this so far do you think. And is it just down to the fact that while they you know that they want to try and keep up with nabil on board in the coalition. What i think this is the only thing that i can think of right now because we know that handle would be a dip. Of the c. T. C. Actually threaten saudi arabia and he reminded them that the whole of the hotels have been fighting them for 4 years and he and his forces can do the same so by claiming that. This council is working in harmony with saudi arabia i think this is not substantiated with any any hard evidence because the statements coming from the council is actually under country or i dont know about how you know if you really know exactly any ground here and you and i mention over the events going on in aden and the apparent crumbling of this coalition. Well unfortunately the United Nations has been doing nothing other than you know expressing its concerns about what is happening but on the ground i think the United Arab Emirate is destroying this part and i dont and its going to decide matters in probably in days to come but does it mean that america would would win the war in yemen the american would actually be defeated at the end of the day because the yemeni people would rise up against it and now we can witness something new that for the 1st time that we see that the yemenis themselves are saying that i would not be is and you could find for so weve never hear such a thing before and i think this is a new development and the level of the conscious of the people and this could materialize to Different Things or translate into a probably a kind of action that would hurt united i want to take that point and that in sounds exactly like in the saudis actually if i may oh how the the calls from some yemenis to see the u. A. E. Is an Occupying Force whats your take on that as the s. T. C. Well thats the International Recognized government is trying to push all their blame all their faults all failures onto someone else as usual at a minute or youre a coalition with them didnt you and your. Interests so which is. The Southern Transitional council is definitely working with the Saudi Led Coalition fighting extremism and fighting. To be supporting the had the government do you ultimately want behind the government to rule over yemen or not. They had a government is being supported by the Saudi Led Coalition but you have to understand also that they had a government is incompetent it is has failed on the economic level on the basic Services Level and deliberated areas where there is no. All by any services they have not been able to they have not they have failed also militarily they have related 100 year 4000 troops in my favor if you let me just finish this point the taunton 50000 troops in matter there have not moved so. Less than an hour drive away or 50 kilometers but have been very more when it came to the southern so ok i understand your concerns my place liberated very briefly you want to see are those the s. T. C. Want to see the heavy government rule over yemen or not well the s. T. C. And the southern people actually stands by the popular will thats where it gains its strength to southern people have rights this is not were not subhuman arent Southern Arizona parents we went 60 faces and this is a human right for us we dont have to really answer that question well leave it to the views to draw whatever conclusion from that if i can give the last 6 seconds to elizabeth are we seeing a situation emerge elizabeth where perhaps the who these and how these have increasingly something in common i think its very difficult for us to see anyone as having anything in common in yemen because the loyalties are safe lou it what is true there is i think the soften secessionist course has altered it and its not going to be feasible to have their entire withdrawal before peace talks can take place and jetta so something needs to change in the head a government or im afraid we are out of time so lets thank our guests its been a really good discussion. Protesters in Hong Kong Set fire to barricades after a major confrontation with Police Outside government headquarters. Im sam is a dan this is al jazeera live from the also coming up in sudan a judge is formally charged deposed president obama bashir with corruption and possession of illicit currency. Nearly 2000000 people who call india home are denied citizenship raising fears of statelessness. The dark cloud you see behind me is actually smoke im seeing human in the reserve in bolivia where out of control forest fires are destroying all the wildlife in their path. Over the past couple of hours in hong kong violence has broken out in the Central District where protesters were surrounding government headquarters protesters threw rocks and petrol bombs and Police Responded with tear gas street battle speed unfolding next to the main barracks of the Chinese Military in the city its the 13th straight weekend of mass protest in hong kong. Lets return to those sites of the protests Hong Kong Live for us is wayne wang we saw pictures moments ago what looks like people running in the streets is their latest. Encampment site being charged by riot police now. Yes it has sammy just to put you in the picture most of the violence that you were referring to took place a few hours ago outside the government offices which in the same content the compound you have the Legislative Council building which is the parliament of hong kong thats where you saw the clashes take place then the protest is left there came less than a kilometer to an area close to the headquarters of the Hong Kong Police and behind me you may be able to see the small ring remains of a barricade that they had set up they set fire to that barricade it was quite a large blaze that was burning for some time before the fire crews were able to get through the large number of protesters that were on the other side of the fire from where were standing eventually able to put that plays out riot police and came down the street with their water cannon trucks as well and have gone across the remains of that barricade where the fire was and of pushing the protest is further away were not sure where the protest is have gone from our Vantage Point where theyve gone to another location or where they have dispersed all together but as weve been reporting this is a familiar pattern for the protesters they will break away from their peaceful marches that take place in the afternoons earlier on in the day then theyll be some violence and then they will disperse perhaps popping up in other parts of the city in smaller numbers usually but i have to say what we saw just a few moments ago on the other side of this burning barricade looked to be still quite a large crowd semi clear message being sent by the protesters to authorities so knives the arrests of friday have not broken their will. No over the course of thursday evening into friday we saw at least 9 people arrested by the police still all prominent faces of the prodemocracy movement in hong kong politicians as well some of them have been charged with incitements with Illegal Assembly and the message coming from those who were arrested was that they felt that this was an attempt by the governments and by the police to stay a people away from protesting the police said that is absolutely not true it was just a matter of timing our investigations into those people had taken that amount of time and so we chose that period to make those wrists so what we had organized for saturday well before those arrests took place was a an organized march through this part of hong kong they applied for Police Permission to stage a large rally the police rejected that permission they then appealed the appeal was turned down again and so the organizers canceled the march they said they didnt want to put people out onto the streets knowing that they were there for breaking the law and they could be arrested but the message from some of the groups behind some of the larger proteus was that they wanted people to come out anyway and thats exactly what happened we saw huge crowds on the streets on saturday afternoon and for the most part like weve seen many times before over the last 3 months it was a peaceful situation peace people marched around different parts of hong kong very peacefully there were very few police to be seen but then they came to that government building there were a lot of Police Inside there its a heavily fortified building now after the protesters stormed a popular that building on july the 1st so theres been heavy security in there ever since but the protest is obviously decided to target that building again didnt appear to make any attempt to actually go inside but they did throw as you say lots of rocks petrol bombs as well as the barricades over the barricades to where the riot police were on the riot Police Responded pretty fiercely i have to say lots of tear gas. And bring in that water cannon as well which as we heard from them just a few moments ago is laced with chemicals as well so it was a pretty stern Risk Response from the police but again we saw the protesters digging in perhaps a bit more than weve seen from them in the past 2 or a good stuff there from wayne hey thats cross over to our other correspondent who is following developments in Hong Kong Sarah Clarke now sara way were saying a moment ago they ran away i understand the process is that is you are now where they are regrouping right oh look. I am where the protests are being chased down so you might be able to see behind me the right place just charge those protesters who were hiding behind that fire those barricades that was lit by the pixel bombs so weve now got the Water Cannons have moved in and all the right place have have charged these protests as far as what i dont know what it was it certainly wasnt tear gas but they were firing and charging and running so weve seen thousands of protests behind me all slowly that way and all the place bands are now moving in as well as of course all the press is following behind the police so surely the action is is a carrying right here behind me and the spirits as way despite the 2 wind high thats exactly where theyre all gathering when they were trying out all moved out i should say from the government headquarters. Now theyve been charged are they giving up or is this cat and mouse game that weve been seeing all day just going on. Oh look at they did flay they were being charged but it is a cat and mouse game this is a strategy to assert the ever caring thing that were seeing every weekend here but certainly this time theres a lot more force being used by the place as you saw earlier the Water Cannons be used using the blue dye 2 of those vehicles have just moved behind me and again the place fans are flowing in and there was some of certainly some pipes being used by those police again by fire but with a particular rifle i cant clarify what that was but they were firing directly those protesters and of course that set them running behind me and where we are is in course right by this is one of the busiest retail sense its what a luxury is kind of reach out area its very very busy most of the diet and they get the money its only about i am here in hong kong so these streets would normally be filled with thousands of people shopping on a saturday evening the streets are clear but only full of protesters and outside the still a few 1000 at least behind me and the Police Vehicles are still flowing in. Given whats happened today should we have every reason to suspect that the protests planned for tomorrow will go ahead and there will be strong its monday and tuesday. A look at if its any indication of the certainly the numbers that we saw here to die i imagine tomorrow will still go ahead it might be a more peaceful protest of course today was peaceful until the police moved in a day if i did find the tennis is a guest of the government Headquarters Building it was peaceful the banners of barricades were set up by those protesters but there was some bricks being thrown i must admit and petro bombs in the evening and wants to stop it so the places should certainly showing that theyre prepared to stand up to these protesters and as well as i think what i mentioned before we had tens of thousands on the streets earlier but now weve got the thousands of hot cool the young the group of prodemocracy protesters who came to continue these protests as weve always special mention the last few crosses were not 13th which but the protests tomorrow will be most to teach it with regards to looking at the economic destruction i imagine but trying to kind of disrupt those flights landing and departing from Hong Kongs International Airport which would have to be one of the biggest if its busiest airports in the world all right thanks so much. Now in sudan a judge is formally charged deposed president Armadale Bashir with corruption and possession of illicit currency bashir told the court he received 25000000. 00 from saudi creedence crown prince rather mohammed bin sandman however he says he did not use the money for private purposes issues lawyer says his client denies all charges against him. Here morgan joins us now live from khartoum so did the defense explain why he received 25000000. 00 from the saudi crown prince. Well sammy the defense was not the one that explained why the former president received the money in fact it was the former president himself on one of the shoe who spoke for the 1st time in the 3rd hearing of this trial where he said that he is Office Manager his Office Manager received a call from the Office Manager of the crown Prince Mohammed bin time and said that there was a special message a special gift that was coming on board a special plane and that when the plane landed a box of money was taken to the state house where the 4. 00 former president resided and when he opened he found 25000000. 00 he also said that he had the choice of whether he should accept the gift or whether he should reject the gift and that he accepted it because he did not want in his words to ruin a special relationship with a special country at that time so his lawyers are arguing that as the head of state he has the right to receive any money and he has the right to spend it however he wishes and that he chose to spend it on a personal capacity because it was given to him as a person and not as a head of state but the judge was asking how can you prove that this was not spent on a personal capacity and he explained he gave some of them to the 2 to the armed groups the Rapid Support forces which is the paramilitary Government Group he gives some of it to the Military Hospital just also government body and some of it to a to other side so he says that he spent most of it in in the form of donations without spending any of it on a personal capacity but thats something that the judge did not buy and he said that hes turning down rejecting the appeal for bail which was applied by his defense lawyers last week and that hes formally indicting the former president without corruption and illegal possession of foreign currencies the fact that he said method to receiving money and then he didnt go through the usual sort of official process how significant is that its. Well so i mean its came. The time when the country was going through an economic crisis the country was already going through shortage of fuel and shortage of flour and what the former president said was that he wanted to use that money to try to get that country to try to get the country out of that crisis he said he was going to try to use it for personal sorry for for Public Interest and not personal interest but it comes at a quite significant time because again like i said that the country at that time was going through an economic crisis so its not clear why he did not go through formal channels its not clear he was not able to explain why it didnt go through the central bank or the minister of finance like the judge these are questions that he asked why did b. Why was it sent on board a private plane why was it not why it through the back to the official channels that people know all and again the president said it
