News of the videos release had spread. That. People want and we. But instead of trying to diffuse the tension by minimizing Police Presence the vehicles were out once again. It didnt take long before things started to happen. Soon a small group started smashing store windows ok well this looting starting now you see people i reckon thats what i think i get. This guy. But then another group of young men quickly moved in to stop the looting why why are you standing there. Sousa google there is a group as a group. Want to snow. Oh. I never. Saw the guys protecting the Convenience Store is saying that they blame the police for inflaming the situation appearing in this manner in the allman vehicles and the why and care again and they say thats the reason why people got angry started Looting Stores going to go and try to speak to the police and also why they deployed like this off to everything thats happened. So the media. Whos who whos in charge here what you need the Commanding Officer very neat to speak the Commanding Officer a right here thank you. Be the calling officer no but we need you to get to a safe spot place we just we weve been spending time with the crowd and theyre asking why the Police Deployed in this way with the Armored Vehicles and the military give their understanding was that i was going to be there trying to maintain state but why did you feel its necessary to bring out the only vehicles i mean were talking theres a reason for talking you need to either go ahead where you after you want to be or dont talk is ringing when i can speak to you. And anyone theres no Media Contact they were told not right now thats what sheriff. The state had promised a different approach. But the militarized response was back and no one could tell us why. Meanwhile down the street the Police Continue to advancing on the protesters no going back the looting had stopped but it seemed like anger and distrust were growing once again started up. The 1st riots yeah. 43 it was a crime just pure emotion. By the way these hes doing this these kids now you want to. Protest. During the protests on the streets of ferguson weve met ronald and solomon. Theyd be now demonstrating every night since the shooting. There from northern st louis county an area that includes ferguson and is predominantly africanamerican. That anger and frustration of the police ran deep as they day just the harassment on date night she like you dont belong to her do the police only have got some strikes enough black and male. 2 strikes all we gotta do is miss the point and we stretched out in the middle of the street thats what people say yes 3 strikes you make a face at a cop strike 3 youre are you going to jail for some where its not just the perception of unfair treatment they have no connection to dont call julie in as Police Officers patrolling the area and enforcing the law all adult has proved his head of the local and double a. C. P. Chapter which follows the federal civil rights complaints against the St Louis County Police for disproportionately targeting blacks a young black kid can live in the urban area and when he leaves his house and any lawful wall coys going to work hes going to school he said to be stopped by police he says to be questioned he so did they had to produce identification he said to be ran through the system and c. B. S. And the wants and the case in some cases that have been for no reason at all in autumn and even if they avoid the police these young men have stacked against them and want to be the Unemployment Rate for africanamericans in this county is 3 times lots of whites st louis is the probably one of the most segregated communities in the country. Both racially and socioeconomically as africanamericans move and whites move out and what happens also with that is. Some of the highest paying jobs so in the best of Living Conditions go with it. Among black males aged 16 to 24 no Never Never Never the Unemployment Rate has reached nearly 50 percent and coming back to lose and what we have to bank on after school i went to college. Medical history if i wanted to be in the medical field i found out i had a felony guess what happened i spent 20000. 00 for nothing. I get my hands dirty war going on course not. Because im a yoof ferial i go bag. What im told to do. Some are you angry hail you. So when people talk about. The anger that they they feel. Its more just about more in full swing its that its about its about life in general you some people want to roll over and say we got older generation they just be like hey dont talk to the police like they still like them we want peace and crazy it was i dont know just be quiet just be quiet and i would have been a freedom of speech why is my modify what happened in. The Ferguson Police department declined our repeated requests for an interview this is big in my ground he says bigoted Trayvon Martin this is about making sure it doesnt have any a game i dont pacifiers for many homes on fire with a bone and they think youre going to be able to get away with the with the guild auto maasai no easy stops issue no never happens. Off the move in 2 weeks of protests on aug 25th the community of ferguson came together for a day of mourning as Michael Browns family made their sons arrest. The family who danced for calm. But since pizza symmetry a crowd of family members and friends watched as Michael Browns coffin was buried. As the mourners went home Michael Browns mother said her final goodbyes to her son. I know that i cant be a proud but my crutch always had always got me a proper knight moment but you know what when you end up honestly Young Brothers who aint got nothing on me right back and thats why they compete they are better so thats of course they want to start a fight so its for all right you hear me. Ok the day after the funeral in downtown st louis people gathered to announce the foundation of a new movement its called hands up United States government well we dont know whether execute the demonstrators here say theyre going to march to the office of the u. S. Attorney here in st louis and theyre calling for an investigation a nationwide investigation of systematic police brutality. The u. S. Department of justice later announced it was launching a broad civil rights investigation into the practices of the Ferguson Police department. Separate from its investigation of the Michael Brown shooting. But for this group and the community they represent their underlying message is unlikely to change. Their calls for justice are bigger than just ferguson Michael Brown. Wake up there about fighting to change a system they say is stacked against them from. What. Ferguson says he on the same page from the fault line series 5 years on rewind return to ferguson to see what changed and how far the community had managed to move on Award Winning st louis filmmaker Chris Phillips lives just a few meters from where mike brown was shot has a unique perspective on the divisions that remain in ferguson today. Ive lived in ferguson in excess of 13 years. You know this is basically this was home for me but in this part of town this is where all of your social Public Services are this is where your Economic Development is emphasizing this is predominately where or for the most part where most of your white residents stay. So as we go on to this overpass here thats going to be pretty much were going to approach this intersection of ferguson avenue and west florissant thats where the big standoff between the people and the police were. You know it was pretty much a peaceful protest people were standing on the ground you know sitting on the ground people had their hands up. And it was just you know it was just a standoff in v. N. As the evening progressed and i got around like 9 10 oclock. Thats when the other activities kicked off. And thats the actual spot where the quake sure was and that got burned down so its on the left here. But a lot of the business is that on this side of town. You know i havent recovered or i havent rebuilt since what happened in 2014. A dome 1st pruitt would presumably st lucie bring to the National Association for the advancement of colored people. You know theres been some improvement the. State legislature did and you know then you have to let you have at things like what the urban league is doing on a site where in the quick trip was things they dont want to deal with unemployment mail thing given the training and given the background you know those are improvement but then that a day is equivalent to a prison in those in trying to call the flu. The racial make. Them Police Department i mean the stance earlier dramatically changed well. Most of the significant achievements we have achieved in this country as relates to the civil rights advancements the vandeman joining them happened you do the legislature do chords and so. The rule is that we get in the day that happened those could not have happened without the protest the willing to sacrifice themselves because they had a day the brutality they suffer and we took that of course and got favorable ruling somebody had to had to be on the receiving end in. You know when i look at where his body is right and my apartment was right around the corner here right so this spot in the pavement right here on this patch of payment this is where his body lay after he was shot 6 times this is where they said they had its hands up and they were for 4 and a half hours his body lead out and so he laid out here and cooked for that amount of time and so really a lot of the crowd presence to happen was not necessarily because somebody got shot of course people are here because of that but. Being out here one hour 2 hours 3 and 3 hours in the body still a beer and for a portion of that time it wasnt even covered up is very horrific its very shocking the images in the video started spreading towards social media and so when the police talk about their response as far as the crowd goals and how that happened theyre responding to a crowd because you left the body here and for 4 and a half hours and what we know being here in missouri in a lot of other places across the country is this would not happen in white communities. Hello im adrian figure this is the live from doha coming up in the next 60 minutes. A victory for amorality backed separatist forces of the yemeni city of aden theyve agreed to a cease fire. At least 70 or killed in terms of after rushing to collect spilled fuel from a crushed tanker. Defying a crackdown on protests the biggest opposition rally for years in russias capital. A peaceful stroll the new hiking trail alongside the Demilitarized Zone between north and south korea. Southern separatists in yemen have agreed to calls from saudi arabia for a cease fire in aden theres been 4 days of fighting in the city a separatist captured bases belonging to the president ial guard after initially being called in to protect the president ial palace Saudi Special forces withdrew before it was overrun the violence has exposed apparent rifts in the saudi u. A. E. Military alliance thats been at war with the who these since 2015 while yemens government is supported by the coalition the southern separatists have been armed and trained by the. Yemens government has accused them of sedition of escalating violence which has put civilians at risk more than 200000 people in aden have no clean Drinking Water and many are fleeing the city aljazeera flora but madly reports. Heat battles of rage before day. 58. 00 since he took over the capital in 2015. Aden has been the seat of the countrys internationally recognized government now key areas including the president to palace have full and to southern separatists. Say their goal is to win back the independence the south lost in the 2 yemens united in 1990 this is what they have been fighting for since 2007. Thats about. More than 10 years now. Since they have been demanding separation. And. The moment now. I think also the regional. National and International Circumstances will be. Their failure this is what is highly likely to happen the separation this flag represented south yemen when it was independent between 1967 until 1998 Group Doctors without borders is calling the city a battlefield. After dozens of the soldiers were killed in a hooty attack on aug 1st sudden separatists accuse the internationally recognized and saudi backed president of failing to protect them and called for the government to be overthrown. Many people have fled 8 others are trapped in their homes including this aid worker we hear the sounds of mortar shells from time to time without knowing the source or the target to be hit some have said in the city are directly hit or fire fragments into houses or the cars for example a group of men sitting in a cafe yesterday were helped by a mortar shell the battling side who once part of a Saudi Led Coalition theyve been fighting hutu rebels in northern and western yemen for more than 4 years the latest violence threatens to open a new front in the 5 year war which is killed tens of thousands of people. 6 aljazeera. William laurence is a professor George Washington universitys Elliott School of International Affairs he joins us now live from washington d. C. Good to have you with us professor saudi arabia has called for all parties in yemen to urgently hold a meeting in the kingdom how significant is that its very significant obviously saudi arabia as a wealthy country and directly involved in the conflict is underwriting a lot of the warfare and many of the parties and so they cannot ignore saudi arabia from the point of view of a coup. Or approve or whatever this is its actually kind of odd that you would have a ceasefire so quickly because that allows the southern separatists to consolidate their gains rather than be ousted rather quickly and so its clear that saudi arabia believes it can mediate and find a solution here and im not so sure that they can do that easily even giving their wealth and their status because as your analyst said the southern separatists have been trying to do this for a long time they have longstanding grievances and its not clear that theyll be an easy deal to make i think this is also a story in many ways of what happens when a proxy war is fought and a power comes in and escalates the conflict but also in some ways stabilizes things on one side of the conflict and then leaves precipitously and what the u. A. E. Did in leaving precipitously is actually further escalate the conflict by leaving a different factions that they had supported stronger against other factions that they had supported and they actually are to blame in part for this mess the saudis are trying to fix so would serve the arabia be justified in feeling aggrieved about the way in which its its Coalition Ally the u. A. E. Has behaved. Yes and ive been predicting and seeing for some months now a gradual separation between you a he and saudi interests both regionally and specifically in this conflict there are a number of reasons for that including the severe reputational damage that saudi arabia has suffered because of the hush affair and other. Crises affecting Saudi Foreign policy but from the beginning the saudi interests in yemen were quite different having to do with its southern border and and dynamics relating to the north of yemen whereas u. A. E. Was always primarily focused on its mercantile interests on the ports on the battlemented straits and and things happening in the waterway south of yemen and the coastal communities that relate commercially with those areas and so i think the u. A. E. Felt when they left that they could they had left you know commanders in charge of unified forces and that their commercial interests would be protected but obviously they were wrong and saudi arabia can be aggrieved that he said so whos in the driving seat as far as the war in yemen is concerned right meeting achieved anything given the nature of the relationship between the u. A. E. And saudi arabia what happens next. It could but this is a good example of where seeing proxy conflicts and yemen in particular as a case where there are a puppet tears and puppets in a proxy conflict doesnt entirely explain whats going on because ultimately what the local factions are doing have to do with their own local interests on the ground and what they succeed in negotiating depends much more on that than anything that the International Players do certainly for example if you portray behooved pieces always doing what iran says that doesnt explain a lot of their actions and the same goes with the southern separatists act in a way that may be antithetical to you as interests even though the u. S. Isnt backing them so its very complex i think the big winners are the who thiis who when when the south gets goes into chaos i think the next big winners are the southern separatists who have the upper hand in this dealings i think theyre clear losers had these government. Forces to the west in the same coalition certainly the saudis will be interesting to see Going Forward what these negotiations produce but one thing is clear weve got one step closer this week 2 would eventual separation in yemen something that the separatists have long wanted but not to a resolution of the conflict neither armed in the north or the who. Are are in a better position but certainly not in a position to impose their will again nor in the south where things are falling apart right now professor richard good to talk to you many thanks indeed for being with us William Lawrence there in washington at least 70 people have been killed Dozens Injured in a fuel tank explosion in tanzania it happened in the town of t. V. North west of the capital of douma people were trying to collect fuel from the vehicle which had over 2 and malcolm web reports. The inferno engulfed dozens of people. Minutes before a crowd gathered to collect petrol spilled from a truck that tipped over near the town of moore in eastern times and here in this video the last thing heard is a woman screaming fire. Her minutes later video thats too graphic for us to show the people on fire running from the explosion and piles of charred corpses find. This piece he shouts get out of there if it doesnt it was too late. We are continuing with our investigation to identify the victims and were looking through the property that has been burned so that we can get an accurate number of all those affected. Many of those who came to collect fuel motorcycle taxi drivers for people struggling to get by a few liters of free fuel can help feed a family or keep children in school but collecting it comes with enormous risk. I came here on a motorcycle and as we approached the area we found the truck overturned and the driver got off and asked the riders to get away warning that the vehicle could catch fire the riders didnt listen and continued to fetch the leaking fuel a man tried to steal the vehicles battery and thats when the fire started police say theyve launched an investigation dozens are in hospital many with severe burns medics have appealed for blood donors this community is left in shock at this rapid and brutal tragedy malcolm webb aljazeera nairobi kenya.
