And was the issue of the drone is still under investigation based on the latest information i received from tehran we have so far absolutely no information about losing a drone well earlier on said its revolutionary guards detained a foreign tanker and its 12 member crew the vessel was reportedly seized on sunday just south of lark island in the straits of hormuz its now iran accuses it of smuggling fuel irans state television released a video showing a u. A based ship that vanished in iranian waters just days ago the u. S. Is demanding its release also in jordan has more for us from washington d. C. Irans and what else is the u. S. Saying about sitting down that drone. Well davy of the pentagon did put out a statement shortly after the president spoke to reporters indicating that there was some sort of incident between the u. Boxer did what needed to be done in order to protect themselves and to protect the vessel its noteworthy however that beyond the president s statements on thursday afternoon and the pentagon statement that there hasnt been much more in the way of saber rattling if i may use that cliche certainly we have seen in recent weeks whenever there has been some sort of incident between the u. And iran theres been a ratcheting up of the rhetoric from the trumpet ministration but its noteworthy that at least as its entering the evening hours here in washington that that is not happening so would you say the shooting of the drone and the other actions weve seen along the strait an increase in our an escalation in tensions. Well it certainly has been operating at a high level of tension its worth pointing out that in addition to the detention that iran it made it to a foreign vessel that may have been transporting illegal alien products as well as this incident involving the u. The revolutionary guard able forces where on an anti Smuggling Mission in the waters of the strait of hormuz when they came across this vessel on sunday they said that it was suspicious the cargo on board so they decided to investigate further and after that they decided that they needed to pursue legal venues to seize this vessel and that is what they did on sunday the revolutionary guard statement says that the vessel was seized near island in the strait of hormuz with 12 crew members on board apparently this vessel had fueled up from iranian dows where it was heading further south in the strait of hormuz to sell the fuel that it had on board that is when the iranians decided to carry out an operation and seize this ship of course this all comes at a time where tensions are very high in the strait of hormuz a number of incidents have taken place here and also noteworthy is the seizure of a new raney an oil tanker in the strait of gibraltar on july 4th where it caused Major Incident between the iranian government and the british because the british navy seized the grace one oil tanker which was carrying 2000000. 00 barrels of Iranian Crude Oil they said that it was heading to syria and that is why they seized that but they waynes have said that that was not the destination of that vessel and theyre demanding it to be returned as quickly as possible this incident on thursday the announcement from the revolutionary guard appears to be a different situation where the revolutionary guard has yet again shown that it is capable of carrying out the measures needed to secure the waters of the strait of hormuz and they have in fact said in the past that this is their number one priority the revolutionary guard me will forces are concerned with the security of the strait of hormuz and they will do everything in their power to make sure that their area remains stable. S. Strategy now is it more diplomatic a few weeks ago they were on the precipice of conflict. You know the u. S. Strategy has been one of unrelenting pressure on iran in the belief that maximum pressure will force iran to its knees force iran to change its behavior and beg for talks i really dont see that happening iran is a proud country and they can tighten their belt and get through these sanctions so donald trump himself has been saying that he does want to talk with the iranians. Strategy nobody in washington really knows because the president can change things he wants to talk but those around him dont really want him to talk until the iranians suffer more economically and theyre applying more pressure to try to make that happen ok so lets talk about the iranian or what seems to be an iranian strategy which is weve seen a lot of seizures in the straits of hormuz iran says its routine particularly were trying to clamp down on smugglers but could this be more of a strategy for them as trying to dominate whats one of the most critical petroleum routes shipping routes.
