Bays there jus south korea for those of you just joining us lets bring you up to speed of whats been going on for the 1st time in history a sitting president of the United States has stepped inside north korea. Accepted than trans invitation to meet with stepping over the line into north korea its their 1st face to face talks since negotiations where north Koreas Nuclear program broke down in february south korean president moon jane accompanied trump at the Demilitarized Zone Mason Ritchie is a professor of International Relations and the specialist on u. S. Korea relations at university of foreign studies he joins us via skype from seoul good to have you with us so weve seen a very historic moment are you hopeful given all the positive statements being exchanged that this will transpire and something more meaningful than simply handshakes and smiles. Honestly im not ill start by saying obviously to jaw jaw is better than war war so at the end of the day im glad that kim showed up and. I hope that you know him and. Do continue to keep this process going but the thing that we really need to remember is that this is all top heavy i think its heavily determined by photo ops and theatricality and we dont really have so far as we know this is part of the evidence shows a working level process in which both sides have seen that can honestly negotiate and make serious concessions on a working level on an expert level to actually lead to the 2 things that actually need to happen out of this whole diplomatic process let me jump in at all if you will why do we not have a working level process as you proceed well you know at least the political culture of north korea. Tends simply to make it the case that. The chairmans being leader of north korea has a tremendous amount to say and everything and so far you know perhaps a bit of take that we dont know why he hasnt empowered his working level experts to make then human concessions my assumption is actually because he thinks he might be able to extract that control on the trump side or on the u. S. Side tends to undermine his own working level and senior level officials with his tweeting. You know i think that both of those contributes that dynamic where we dont have a serious working level process but let me jump in again though if you. Play devils advocate here for a moment and say if that is the dynamic that is is is guiding these 2 countries and i said those supporters of President Trump might say thats precisely why his approach might have a chance of success because it is down to the post new dynamic of these 2 people. I mean anything can happen so i guess not totally to be excluded but at the end of the day you know a. Nuclear program like north korea is an extremely complicated endeavor involving hundreds of thousands of people tremendously complicated pieces of technology and on the other side sanctions involve an extremely. Complex Legal Process become the u. S. Domestic level and on the International Level and im sorry at the end of the day leaders cant do that by themselves they dont have the expertise. We seem to have heard when trump was addressing refuses just as he walked off the sit down i wonder if you he seemed to indicate that he would invite chairman kim to the white house could that be indicative of some process style single being launched. I think thats indicative of the fact that trump can talk 1st and think later im going to go is no on that you know theres always a chance that something isnt worked out and advance like i said you know it is possible but it seems highly unlikely right now that indicative of something going on on the working level where you could actually see you know and you know actual significant amount of movement or denuclearization zone sanctions thats not to say to him or to accept. But i dont think that thats because of many working level progress thank you very much for analysis lets take our viewers back to south korea near the border of the Demilitarized Zone. To do whats happening now james. Well we think sami that they are still inside the Freedom House the 2 of them so that is interesting because the big question was whether everything that we were going to see happen today was going to be for the cameras it seems there is a meeting going on one fascinating fact off twitter from a journalist that i trust whos been watching the live feed and looking at detail of the pictures is that when people were ushered out seen not in the room but outside the room was the u. S. Secretary of state mike pompei it would be very much the administrations point man he was cia director was the 1st to secretly visit pyongyang getting this process going steve began who is the the negotiator on behalf of the u. S. And the fox news host Tucker Carlson theyre both there all 3 of them waiting outside the door fascinating that 2 of them are not in the room and that one of them is so close to the room Tucker Carlson is being believed to be a somewhat unofficial advisor to President Trump we know then that the meeting is going on President Trumps time here at the d. M. Z. Much much longer than had originally been planned he should now have been back in seoul addressing u. S. Troops u. S. Military bases are now for space at the same air force base where air force one is waiting to take him back to washington d. C. It seems theyll be leaving later than planned sames that way and clearly james are in very unclear of graft territory right now correct. Sami ill be honest ive been doing this quite a long time and i think the 1st president ial meeting on one of these visits that i covered was george h. W. Bush. You expect these president ial trips because they have the teams that go in advance the advance teams that scope everything out plan everything plan every single shot every single camera angle you have the u. S. Secret service that have every rooftop covered snipers in place people everywhere and you saw those chaotic scenes in part because the u. S. Dont control the situation this was on the dividing line between north and south korea they cant control what the North Koreans do they cant control what the south koreans do and you have reporters pushing being pushed back by the secret service and by the north korean Security Team of kim really unprecedented sea completely unplanned chaotic in a way which i think backs up to an extent what President Trump said i dont really believe to be honest that this was organized after a tweet just 36 hours ago but it has certainly been very hastily organized and is most unusual it would be very interesting down the line to read a memoir from one of the officials involved in this i think it really will be eye opening. Thanks so much james spays there. Well donald trump told kim jong un that he was proud to step into north korea and held his friendship with the leader. Well i want to thank you here i mean. You hear the power of the board nobody triggered voice because you dont. Feel you have it and this was a special moment and this is i think really the prisoner would say it was a story moment the fact that were meeting and i want to thank chairman kim for Something Else when i put out the social media notification if he didnt show up to the press was going to make me look very bad so you made us feel good that we should play that we developed a great relationship i really think that if you go back to laos years and you look at what was going on prior to my becoming president it was a very very bad situation a very dangerous situation for south korea to go to korea for the world and i think the relationship that weve developed a it has been so much to so many people and its just an honor to be with you when it was an honor that you asked me to step over the line and i was proud to step over the line i thought you might do that i wasnt sure but i was ready to do it and i want to thank you its been great great very historic they were just sitting one of the folks from the media would say this could be a very historic moment and i guess thats what it is. Enjoy being with you thank you very much. That is equal for here ive always wanted to meet you at this place as a symbol of the separation of the north and the south and to remind you of the unfortunate past meeting at such a place shows that we are willing to put an end to the unfortunate past and also open a new future to provide positive opportunities in the future. All right lets bring in now ross fine gold is the Political Risk joins us via skype from taipei good. Have you with us given that this meeting that were watching but a historic moment is happening on the back of what we saw in the g. 20 with some positive signals shall we say in the broader sort of u. S. Asia particular u. S. China relationship is that do you think that this meeting has a great chance of producing something some stance if well the fact that the meeting occurred already is president shrub is clearly going to declare a victory whether one looks at it as a Foreign Policy victory or a domestic u. S. Politics victory keeping in mind were now in our 2020 alexion season we saw the democrats debating a few days ago about what was the greatest Security Threat they dont seem to be prioritizing north korea anymore they were talking about iran and russia and china that really plays into Donald Trumps hands to say that the things that hes been mentioning throughout the day as far as progress on north korea are actually true and that hes going to push back on the critics whether its in the media or analysts like me on t. V. Who want to say that there hasnt been substantive progress President Trump is going to continue to say there actually has been a lot of substantive progress and that the tensions have been significantly reduced and this is something that his predecessors havent been able to do so for donald trump this week and really appears to be a political in a Foreign Policy victory so far to what extent is progress on the north korean issue really depended on progress in u. S. China relations. Well we know that china is always going to be supportive of north korea in recent years we constantly see stories that talk about chinese frosh regime with north korea and north korea developing its Nuclear Missiles and increasing tensions with the us or japan or south korea we all Major Trading partners of china but ultimately even if that shrew we see that china does allow some sanctions violations to occur or they allow some small trade to occur even if china overtly says were complying with the international or the u. N. Sanctions regime we saw the recent visit if she jumping to china to north korea it still indicates that the bonds of friendship remain very deep and that are going to prioritize u. S. Interests over their own u. S. Interest or the korean interest when it comes to north south korea Korean Peninsula issues so the u. S. Shouldnt be counting on china when it comes to north korea and i dont think donald trump really is and thats why we see donald trump meeting directly with kim jong un rather than relying on stage of being to reach a settlement for north south korea issues. How Much Movement has there be unrealistically on the issue of the process of denuclearization and sanctions relief. Well we know that they obviously havent reached any substantive agreements and continue to talk they have what was initially agreed to in singapore last year and clearly what President Trump says that here are the things that north korea has stopped doing when he talks about Nuclear Tests or long range missile tests this is true and again we have to be fair to president tromp on that aspect and its also true that we havent reached the grandson omitted the birth occasion process is that the u. S. Wants and thats why theyre still talking whether its the 2 leaders talking or hopefully the chief new good turn of the other alternative would be to go back to the tensions that we saw in the 1st few months of the Trump Administration i dont think any regional governments want to see that happen whether its china south korea or japan so again the critics are of course theyre going to say that its all photo ops and no deal has been reached but the other side of that is is some Key Takeaways which President Trump does emphasize that the tensions dont exist the same way he did before and for now at least north korea is not continuing some of the more provocative actions will they return to that of course its possible especially as we get we go into the u. S. President ial election season if a different president elected in 2020 this process might take a very different direction theres a lot we dont know we only could deal with what we see now or in recent months and that is a reduction in tensions. All right stay with us thanks for your thoughts so far do stay with us lets just bring up the speed of what we have been seeing so far and donald trump isnt the 1st sitting president to see the d. M. Z. For u. S. Leaders before him have gone there around reagan being the 1st in 1983 the Demilitarized Zone separates north korea and south korea running 250 kilometers long its a virtual no mans land fortified on both sides panmunjom where the 2 leaders are meeting is known as the truce village it was the designated place. Where officials from both sides can meet back to Russ Feingold ross so very historic moment how much room is there on the u. S. Side for compromise and some of those issues that lead to a complete breakdown in hanoi. It get it depends on what the demands are as far as verification the problem with north korea and past agreements that its reached with the International Community is that north korea never 5th fills its obligations they always seem to cheat now that was under kims father or grandfather maybe it will be different this time especially if you get the trade off that hes seeking with the reduction in the International Sanctions regime theres no hope in the us or expectation that they would fill anything that is not very very strict and thats why the hanoi meeting ended prematurely because the us insisted on a very strict verification regime it wasnt something that kim jong un was willing to agree to that day and maybe as of today hes still not willing to agree and again thats why the sanctions can continue to be imposed and these are extraordinarily painful sanctions for the north korea we know that theres a lot of sanctions violations that go on and this is why the north korean regime can continue to survive whether its through china or other nefarious actors around asia who will continue to trade goods or wyo or call busy busy with north korea we know that continues to go on we dont know what korea continues to engage in its cyber activities that are involved hacking or blackmail and they make money from that theres narcotics stealing but theres a lot of bad behavior by north korea allows the regime to survive and thats why the Trump Administration really hasnt given in on anything and on that point i think we see that even south korea as much as they want to move quickly they cant pressure the United States to ask for a more reduced level of verification that the United States would be satisfied with how much support is the broader least speaking in asia for the policy then of maximum restraint maximum pressure on north korea if this doesnt lead to something substantial. Well the Current Situation is not necessarily a bad one for governments around age you know previously some of them had diplomatic relations they had embassies in north korea or with korea had embassies in various countries around asia there was a small level of trade there were north korean workers in Different Countries who have now had to go home as a result of the maximum pressure sanctions but the tensions have been reduced and thats also to the advantage and something that governments around asia want to see obviously its not in their interest for the u. S. To have large scale military exercises with south korea or japan because that does increase tensions of course there reduced risk of it actual military conflict is something governments around asia are very happy so of course leaders around the region theyre going to take the view that theyre happy to see donald trump and kim jong un meeting rather than to go back to where we were 2 and a half years ago or under the Obama Administration so again this is a situation at least as its a day that leaders around age are going to be very supportive of perhaps with one exception thats going to be shinzo lobby of japan because for the most part japan is has been a bit add an outlier in this process south koreas mood has met with kim jong un many times she jim king was was just in north korea and they maintain that strong relationship and obviously has really cracked into that circle of regional leaders who are now saying we could talk to kim jong un and we get along with him hes still on the outside looking in for this process all right thanks so much fine gold that go by tall diplomatic at the james basies live in pudu in south korea in the the Demilitarized Zone so a few moments of policy i assume they still in that meeting a positive sign james. We think theyre still in their meeting the reporters were all obviously inside the Freedom House watching the 2 man who spoke to them kim telling the reporters that he thought this was a positive meeting that would positively affect things Going Forward but then of course the reporters were told to leave they were told to then set up outside the Freedom House take their cameras there and they would be able to film them leaving so the assumption is they are still inside talking and that we will know when they have left and that is just an assumption on my part having said that we also believe from the reporters on the ground that certainly at the start of this meeting some of the key officials including the u. S. Secretary of state and the lead u. S. Negotiator werent inside the room so this seems to follow President Trumps pattern that hes seen with some of his other relationships noteworthy perhaps with president putin where he wants to meet one on one clearly although we which is interesting heard him speaking a few words of english when they crossed back and forth from north to south korea in that historic moment for the cameras. That they all this discussion nothing of in detail they need interpreters they will be with them. So. I think that its worth telling you by the way we just had the 1st t. V. Figures in on these pictures that youve been watching on south korean t. V. 27 percent of the south korean population more than a quarter of the people of this country apparently were watching those historic pictures so that is that shows you i think the resonance for those that say this is just a photo opportunity look how many people. While watching this and look how it may well affect their sentiments about this process it wont be shown and wasnt shown live in north korea i dont think they necessarily have the Technical Capability to do it at this notice it will though be edited carefully edited with careful commentary written for it and be shown in north korea as well and whatever you say about either side of this border there is a sentiment that this is one nation that eventually should be united and so these sort of pictures in a place that has seen 66 years since the korean war a cold war that at times has felt very close to a hot war this sort of pictures i think really do affect things janes just to pick up on something we heard. U. S. President donald trump indicate there in remarks to the press that he would invite kim jong un to the white house. That shows perhaps that the has a very clear determination to make sure that this leads to another stage or another phase in talks. Yes weve been listening back very carefully to the tape of that and he was asked will you invite him to the white house so he didnt initiate the comment and his reply was i would invite him right now does that amount to an invitation certainly its close to an invitation to the white house so yes in in the future held out there is yet another historic meeting and another moment for the cameras so this is a process that has been dominated by high level meetings in fact meetings between the 2 top officials the 2 leaders of these countries which have been effectively at war since the start of the korean war in 150. And so that is very very important but you have to say that even if the 2 leaders are getting on very well there are real issues to deal with that lots of other officials in their administration need to come on board with and sort out and we havent seen a lot of progress on some of those key official of key issues detailed military and scientific and Nuclear Issues that need to be dealt with until now the only Real Progress in terms of actually solving the problem rather than getting a Good Relationship going which clearly has happened at the top level is the fact that the u. S. Has held back on its military exercises on the Korean Peninsula and the North Koreans have stopped their Nuclear Testing and have stopped their testing of miss sile with the exception of since the noise summit which failed as you know in february theyve tested 2 smaller range missiles even though they were not long range missiles to berts of the u. N. Security council told me that was a killer breach of Security Council resolutions the rest of the Security Council deciding not to call a meeting not to make a statement not to have a resolution not to put pressure on north korea because out of deference to the u. S. They want this process to flourish and may felt the pressure at this moment could kill things. All right thats our senior divine together to james. Lets bring you up to date with whats going on there is the latest pictures from the Demilitarized Zone were looking at. The pictures should show us the area where the 2 leaders will come out of lets see if we can there we go that building is where we believe the 2 leaders are meeting and thats where they will come out of in a moment once they finish with the meeting its been about 40 minutes if i have time this correctly since they went in. Or come back to stand when we get some more action going on there. Lets bring you some other news from around the world now the polls have opened in albanias local elections but the opposition is refusing to take part the socialist Prime Minister called the elections but the president and his Democratic Party allies oppose it and once a nationwide ballot instead more than 5000 polling stations have been prepared. John psaropoulos reports from the suburbs of the capital tirana. Government workers setting up a Voting Center at abraham rugova high school incomes are this is a safe seat for the opposition but it isnt fielding a candidate because its boycotting local elections nationwide the Democratic Party accuses the government of corruption and wants a general election instead its demanding the resignation of socialist Prime Minister. This is the culmination of months of opposition protests against alleged government corruption that have also seen the main opposition parties walk out of Parliament President has canceled sundays elections saying they will damage albanians image as it prepares to begin membership talks with the European Union president canceled the polls but the government is proceeding regardless many albanians regard that as unconstitutional and legal challenges are expected to lower upon the only thing that can remove me from the office is peoples fault and not the decision of the Political Party we are not in north korea we are no longer under communism i shall not recognize these elections. This tough line from the Democratic Party led many of its supporters to try and prevent Voting Centers from being set up in the 24 cities the opposition controlled. In the city of scada police dispersed protesters with tear gas police are now keeping Voting Centers under a good income so to prevent further incidents this municipality has a special status for the opposition it is a Democratic Party stronghold on the outskirts of tehran which is socialist dominated in the past 23 years the socialists have held it only once in 2000 when the democrats again abstained from the electoral process Democratic Party leader losing says he. Hes asking his supporters to remain calm but could lose control after monday albanians are shocked by the non reaction of International Community to mr ramos now proved connections to organized crime for which he gave power in 2017 this is a very dangerous situation and it could potentially lead to civil unrest social unrest come monday if there is not a clear condemnation of the farce that has already happened. Climate change was one of the primary topics of discussion at the g. 20 summit on saturday but calls for taking Global Action once again been rejected by the u. S. 18 nations and the e. U. Pledged to keep working towards reducing Global Warming most take you back to the Demilitarized Zone in korea between north and south korea we have the u. S. President and the north Korean Leader emerging there are. Almost an hour of talks i believe or so now since going in to that building. Or im not a lot of coming out would be to walk back our diplomatic the magic editor james bays i believe is standing by with us and james theyve spent almost an hour in there a little more than originally planned right. Yes if you remember President Trump said all i want is a very quick handshake and say hello he is saying that this was all set up all on saturday morning when he sent out a tweet saying if youre around please pop over the border and see me some skepticism that maybe they have been earlier contacts between the u. S. And north korea between washington and pyongyang to set this up but it has seemed a somewhat chaotic and hastily prepared visit have just come out of whats known as the Freedom House not clear exactly who was in the room for those top 6 president moon was he in there or not for all of it certainly the u. S. Secretary of state might pompei o one point was outside the room as was the chief u. S. Negotiator stephen begins so it may well have been a very small group thats the way President Trump likes to do business one on one personal transactions a longer meeting them planned perhaps some substance discussed behind closed doors they have met again will the price of the beating be a concession of one side or the other i suppose if you ask that question you have to work ask who this 3rd meeting benefit certainly the conventional wisdom is when their 1st meeting took place in singapore just over a year ago that was a real concession to the North Koreans to get an audience with the u. S. President something the United States doesnt give lightly now were at a point over a year on when the process had stalled after neuer after President Trump walked away you wonder whether its the North Koreans who want some sort of payback particularly as the north Korean Leader traveled all the way from pyongyang we. I believe or it seems according to President Trump relatively short notice to have this meeting. What we think will happen now is theyll go their separate ways and President Trump much delay on his original plans will head back in the direction of seoul to an air base thats just about 60 kilometers away from seoul where he is to speak to Us Service Personnel who are serving in korea 28000. 00 servicemen and women in total are still here on the Korean Peninsula its that bad air base that air force one is parked and its from here from there the president will head on the long journey back to washington d. C. After a trip to asia that certainly the white house is going to paint as a very big success theyre going to say that this has put diplomacy with north korea back on track were going to say the g. 20 that has stopped the trade war with china certainly there is some truth in both those things this has brought new life to peace efforts in north korea but not sure theyve dealt with any of the substantial issues regarding the Nuclear Program of north korea with regard to china and trade yes theyre going to start talks again but i said all right jane im going to jump in here u. S. President is talking now. Some details and again speed is not the object we want to see if we can do a really comprehensive good deal. Nobody knows how things turn out but certainly this was a great day this was a very legendary very historic day. As quick notice nobody saw this coming and great that he was able to react so quickly and that we were able to react so quickly but. In speaking with president oftentimes. He was saying this is historic just the meeting is historic and i think theres something to that it will be even more historic if something comes out that something very important but a lot has already come out because you see whats going on and you see whats happening and you see the level of relationship as opposed to the way it was when i came into office when i came into office it was a fiery mess it was bad things were going on. And the end of the other administration the last administration was nothing but trouble and so always happened and you know it reported accurately but thats ok some day history will record it accurately i can just say that for 2 and a half years weve had peace for 2 and a half years with nothing signed just based on relationship but president moon was saying very strongly that he said he would have never believed that the thing could go on like he was so friendly so peacefully for so long so weve agreed to have teams set up by me were going to have the United States will have a team. That could carry a state pompei i will pick it we already know the gentleman it works for you. And your honor stevens pro and a good man and he likes both countries very much so seems going to head it up and under the auspices of a great secretary of state might become pale busy and whats going to happen is over the next 2 or 3 weeks the teams are going to start working to see whether or not they can do something very big stuff pretty complicated but not as complicated as people think a lot of our great triumphs have been based on relationship and this is one where i mean its been just a different skill you so when they were showing us around when they were showing president moon and myself around and they were talking about a 2 and a half 3 years ago it was really dangerous. But there you could move people were being killed a lot of bad things were happening and they said since singapore its been a whole different ball. And i was telling i was telling chairman kim that actually to me hanoi it was a Great Success the person reported it the opposite would you need that and you sometimes need things like going to happen but it was a Great Success because we maintained our relationship so were going to have teams are going to meet over the next few weeks and theyre going to start a process and well see what happens and id like to have a 1st where you feel your interpretation and then well have the president say a few words. So you can access to the. If you dont use all of them. That. You can. Im sure that you so much with it and that we have that in me but i need to just anyone younger like that. Its hard. To do Something Like that. You know 10 years and then again i. Also think. That you meet as you know you dont like you know an internet are going to get so he wanted to you know. I think. We had some important comments from the u. S. President there saying theyve agreed to have teams set up and over the next 2 to 3 weeks those teams will start working will start a process. As the u. S. President put it so it doesnt scenes like this meeting and about an hour of talks between the leaders of the United States of america and north korea but that meeting has led to the start of some kind of process forward. The resumption of diplomatic contacts and talks between the u. S. And north korea to get over some of the issues which led to a breakdown in hanoi a breakdown that president transferred was a positive thing was not a negative thing as it had been covered in the media called it a great day a legendary day. And said that spinning it is not the objects. He hailed the state or condition of wife is currently stand saying weve had peace about based on everything. She she. Is in greece which in the. Comfort of clearly where you come on your own but also yourself you dont know which isnt to look at 3. 100. Critical so you need. A great distraction from work or use great achievement on which. The dominant. Jewel of his we had issues but we could. We could see the hope rising. On the horizon so we hear meet and be educated team will face to. Face each other to achieve working level. Talks and i keep my. Mouth on the transit. Thank you visit the opi world that however thanks to President Trumps bold proposal this historic meeting had taken place and now id like to pay triple my tribute to the creative and bold approach that trumpets demonstrated fans also through this meeting today we are in the process of achieving complete denuclearization of Permanent Peace i believe that we have been able to come go over a big hurdle and this is actually a present of the big hope for the 80000 Korean People as one people of the. So and this i believe that this is also significant progress and thats what the United States and north korea have agreed to set up seems to begin working level negotiations in the near future and that in itself constitutes a success so im looking forward to a great accomplishment through this process and id like to thank President Trump again thank you very much and i also want to thank chairman kim because frankly when we put out that notice knowing the press like you. Had he decided not to come. You would have had me he would hit me hard so were thanking him and for doing it and such quick notice he had less than 24 hours i guess and thats pretty good we moved mountains i want to thank secret service and all of the people that work so hard our military in particular all of the people that work so hard because setting Something Like this up so quickly is very hard its very hard and i can only say the media was a very good one very strong very solid great relationship and well see what can happen now want to see if we can do something but again we want to get it right we dont want to were not looking for speed were looking to get it right and in the meantime theres been no Nuclear Tests theres been no Ballistic Missiles theres been a lot of good will and continues to be maybe of anything better i think probably after today better than it was even before so i want to thank all of the media im going over to our great military base and im going to speak to our troops and ive been doing this now for about 3 weeks straight in one form or another having to do with one thing or another and i asked to look forward to being on air force one going to be heading home and a lot of you are coming with us but i look forward to it but 1st im going to say a few words to our troops yes i think something you have client for itself and you walk us through what happened with the chairman said to you what was potations you process what the. Well yes. We went and met at the line and in meeting at the line i said would you like me to come across he said i would be so honored and thats the way it worked out and i guess from what i understand this is the 1st that 1st time 7 thing like that mr admiral the 1st time that Something Like thats happened but i asked him i said would you like me to come across the line and he said i would be honored to do that i would be honored i didnt know really what he was going to say. But it was my honor to do it we had a very good meeting if you extend the station because i think i did actually at some point it will all happen if it all works out at some point thatll all happen. But this was a pretty big move today i imagine based on what everyone is telling me but it was my honor i said to him and we had a pretty long chat were going to have a chat for 5 minutes as you know and it ended up being pretty long i guess an hour or something but it was a very positive this was a very positive day a very positive event and i think its good really for the world this is a very what happened today i think is great for south korea and i think its great for the North Koreans i think its good for the world you know when we started this you had missiles flying over japan. They werent so happy they wouldnt if they did have the sirens going and a lot of problems i think you all remember the case of why you remember that whole situation to remember guam you remember what was happening there i mean the world was a very tense place and i became president and we went through a rough dialogue for a while we covered it very well but there we went through a very rough dialogue and then all of a sudden we came together so. Lets see what happens we have steve is going to do a fantastic job hes going to be representing. Us in the talks and. It will be we will be dealing with south korea will be dealing with president moon and his people but pretty much its going to be the initial close will be between the United States and with north korea and president move will be right there to take it all of its critics. From the invitation initially well we we were contacted almost immediately when i went out with some of the oh well i just asked him out so i said you know what at the right time youre going to come up were going to go over there we have a ways to go yet well see but i would i would certainly extend the invite but i actually mentioned out there in front of the press i said anytime you want to do it. But i think. We want to take this down to the next step lets see what happens in some very very positive meeting and we had a positive meeting very positive on trade with president xi of china that was a was a great meeting we had yesterday see what happens but it was a great meeting and again. You know very well these people they heard with these deals they turned out to be disastrous no hurry no real speed go ahead. And you worry what we have achieved we have a table with it were going to spearhead it and hes also putting somebody in charge who we know and we like. People are still. Well i think they are i can tell you the main person is i know that because we know that and. I would hope the rest are too i would really help us try to what i can tell you that they said that the person that we dealt with wasnt and then. I dont for a fact he has to the chairman spoke to the chairman and promised he would do it with missile tests because there have been a few sets of well very small ones are these are missiles that practically every country tests i mean these are were very sad that i we dont consider that a missile test actually it was a test which. Were talking about Ballistic Missiles long range Ballistic Missiles and not only not testing them hasnt even come close to testing and most importantly there were no Nuclear Tests if you remember the end of the Obama Administration and the early part of my administration was tremendous Nuclear Testing they had a mountain moved out of you remember the big earthquake they thought it was an earthquake was a massive 9 point something earthquake it turned out to be a nuclear test. I think we were we were in a very good path. With a very good bit this was a terrific day and now were lets say a lower grade troops are you guys going over there to recruit good thank you over and shes sitting. There saying on a minute some point look im looking forward to taking more i dont like sanctions being on this country im looking forward but the sanctions remain yes but at some point during the negotiations are things going to happen and thats what well be talking about sanctions kate thank you very much a case of the. U. S. President there saying looking forward to taking sanctions of north korea as the outlying to reporters the process Going Forward saying hes very much looking forward to getting it right not for speed. Reemphasizing once again that theyve agreed to set up working groups to Start Talking to each other to bring in our diplomatic as a james bases live for us from south korea near that tries so basically james that we just witnessed the announcement of resumption of talks between the 2 sides. We have and weve heard that its going to start very very soon the person thats going to lead it is the chief negotiator for the u. S. Steven beacon under the supervision of section state might compare as being very closely involved in this process in fact to see ida a director was the one who made the 1st secret visit to pyongyang President Trump says talks over the next few weeks i think the idea to try and get momentum into this certainly the criticism in the past has been that this is worked at the very high level to press the 2 leaders seem to get on seem to have a poor but that hasnt translated into any of the detail the negotiations clearly now theyre trying to use this visit and this historic moment to springboard things into a negotiation and a process which starts pretty soon also the last comment that i think was interesting President Trump saying sanctions could be lifted as the process goes on because theres another big question about this do you do it all as one or do you do it in a slow phased process the example that bring comes to mind for me is the Iran Nuclear Deal the one President Trump pulled out of that was painstaking negotiations for years trying
