Government is officially closed the senate is couldnt reach a compromise over a short term funding deal we will tell you how its all happened who is affected and about the furious reaction from the white house which puts the blame squarely at the door of the democrats its all overshadowing what President Donald Trump it would be a day of celebration as he months one year in office for now he is staying in washington instead of heading to florida while the crowds are gathering across the country for a replay of the massive womens march almost one year ago and did other news well thats just it facebook wants to know what you think i. Amongst all the news you see on your feet of snow other attempts to we down socalled flight you question is will the publics help in a world of such varying opinions. And im lee harvey a hospital in kenya is under investigation after women went on facebook say may been abused while they were patients there the government is now involved trying to address the allegations as a conversation continues to grow online. If youre in nairobi you want to hear from you connected at. All with the news grid live on air and streaming online through you tube Facebook Live and at aljazeera dot com we will get to all of those stories in a moment but first some breaking news out of syria turkeys Prime Minister says jets have conducted air strikes on the syrian on klav of three in a targeted kurdish why p. G. Positions and also were hearing from the Free Syrian Army which is confirming they have now started a ground offensive as well evening pictures coming through from the air as well quite dramatic of those plumes of smoke going up in the distance from what we assume are the air strikes were going to get the latest from antakya now with Stephanie Decker whos following this one stephanie. Thats right when its been a week in the in the making come all and it seems it is now under way really what was the Sticking Point was negotiating with russia when it comes to the air space and this is what the big question mark was and just about an hour ago that air campaign started announced by the Prime Minister as you said we still some jets in the skies we were driving back from the border because the military had made us move away from where we had been throughout the day theyve been shelling not much i have to say but certainly now jets in the sky bombing certain areas in a foot in the turkish army says that this is only targeting what it calls terrorists this is of course the why p. G. Group and not civilians but certainly it will be terrifying for the civilians inside that area because they are surrounded as you mentioned the Free Syrian Army these are Turkish Backed rebels or theyve been amassing over the last couple of days to the east of inside syria we spoke to an f. S. A. Commander just a little while ago he told us yes they are now starting to move towards that area so it is just to highlight the complexity of this work a mile you now have a nato ally bombing a group that the United States calls its best ally when it was fighting eisel on the ground and still continues to do so so incredibly complicated and certainly concerning for the civilians inside that area turkey fly a door of this up earlier in the wake and talked about if i remember correctly no turning back to suggest were looking at a pretty big operation to come here. Well i think you know anything with syria we have to wait and see but yes the language certainly the political language coming from from all the top levels of politics here is that theyre not going to stop until its cleared of what it calls terrorists which is the why p. G. Which is the armed wing of the party that controls not just after being but also the other kurdish cantons in the language coming from the turks have always been like this is going to be the start theyre going to then going to move into members and then all the way to the iraqi border now just briefly members for example is a town still west of the euphrates the why p. G. Remain there turkey has always wanted the y. P. To move east of the euphrates the last time there was a confrontation there between the two sides the americans moved in with troops and vehicles to calm that down so it just gives you a sense of all the sides here and what turkey wants what others will not want but certainly now i think the focus on africa is just in the first hour of this air campaign and were going to have to wait and see how this unfolds with with Ground Troops moving in as well ok stephanie deck is on top here the latest on this offensive beginning on a friend well just have a quick look at some more live pictures see what weve got there more of those plumes of smoke going up off in the distance as the light fades and there is a fresh explosion you would think tamar discerning in on that one as well we will keep a close eye on this one lots of news happening today on the grid but obviously this is a developing story which we will be keeping an eye on. Meanwhile is a little after ten am in washington d. C. The u. S. Government is officially in shutdown only essential offices and services will remain open after a senate vote fails to fund federal agencies for another month this is the first time the u. S. Government is shut down while the white house the senate and the house of representatives have all been controlled by the one party but predictably both republicans and democrats blaming each other heres that tweet you just saw remember to go case in point from president dont trump tweeting around six thirty in the morning this is the one Year Anniversary of my presidency and the democrats wanted to give me a nice present hash tag democrat shutdown that stop with this report from particle hey. This is not the anniversary any leader wants to have it was exactly one year ago when donald trump made this promise and became president. We will face challenges we will confront hardships but we will get the job done he vowed government would work again its clear with this it isnt republicans who control the congress and the white house lost four of their own members but picked up five democrats still not enough to pass the bill that means many nonessential Government Employees wont be coming to work on monday without a deal although most essential federal services will continue the employees just wont get paid until its over it came down to this a program that was in place to protect children brought into this country without documentation President Trump threw it out he said congress should fix it he promised to help if we do this properly dr you know its so far away from comprehensive Immigration Reform and if you want to take that further step ill take the heat i dont care i dont care ill take all the heat you want to get. They brought him a bipartisan deal and he refused to sign it so democrats refused to help pass the budget now the white house is saying they still have the weekend to work out a deal i think it will be taken care of the money i can thats why i just said i think i have to you think theres a really difficult to. Fix the problem for the officers for the future for now it is a standoff a functioning government held hostage while two parties wait to see which side the public will blame for the very dysfunction that trump promised to end exactly one year ago what weve just witnessed on the floor was a cynical decision by Senate Democrats or shovel. Millions of americans for the sake of irresponsible political gash a Government Shutdown was one hundred percent avoidable this will be called the trump shutdown because there is no one no one. Who deserves the blame for the position we find ourselves in more than President Trump pedicle hain aljazeera washington now it is very easy to talk about a court and court Government Shutdown but here is what it actually means hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be affected but it will vary for example more than ninety five percent of employees at the e. P. A. The Environmental Protection agency and the Housing Department will be out of work at the. Maintenance and intelligence operations will be impacted and about half of the Defense Department seven hundred forty thousand civilian workers will also take a leave of absence tourism takes a hit because places like washingtons famous smithsonian museums and the national zoo will be closed but border and Airport Security and air Traffic Control will continue they have to say while the state Department SaysVisa Services at u. S. Embassies will remain as long as funding remains we go to washington here as kimberly how could our White House Correspondent kimberly whats the latest youve got from there because i mean the government shuts down but presumably going to try and get it open again. Thats right and i was speaking to a white house official in the last hour or so who told me the president is particularly frustrated because it really is in the hands of congress at this moment where they have returned to work to try and break the standoff that continues in the meantime the president has been tweeting as you pointed out rather vigorously in the last couple of hours on social media five that ive counted the latest coming forty one minutes ago saying democrats are holding our military hostage over their desire to have unchecked illegal immigration cant let that happen the bottom line in all of this is that democrats say were not going to approve any sort of funding deal unless there is the unaddressed issue of illegal immigration but the white house on the other hand has drawn a line in the sand saying were not going to talk about immigration at all until there is this issue resolved of the government funding so its hard to see how this impasse is going to be broken in the meantime as you point out this Government Shutdown is starting to take a fact the last one nearly five years ago lasted sixteen days one of the mechanics of it from now kimberly who brings this back to the senate does it have to go back through the house how does it actually work from. Well the bottom line is there is something that has been passed in the house the senate tried to pass it in terms of you need to have a passage in both chambers the signed into law by the president there could be all kinds of combinations its really hard to speculate what could happen but what is essentially the problem here for both parties as they do this finger pointing is that the public is watching all of this and there is going to be some political blame and fall out in an Election Year so this is a risky calculation for not just republicans but also democrats because well a majority of americans according to most polls do support this effort to find a solution to illegal immigration and those who have been living here in the shadows illegally sometimes for multiple decades at the same time a jordi of americans also to support this Government Shutdown of this ongoing dysfunction so certainly it is the people that will weigh in on all of this ultimately in november but for now i can safely say that there is general frustration across the board here in washington and in the United States just to confirm kimberly as you know what donald trump is in the house behind you but is still planning to go to florida at some point. Well i asked him we still dont have clarification on that it may come down to the fact that the president is also now a federal employee and only in a Government Shutdown can essential work be taken can can essential work be conducted donald trump was planned to go to florida for a political fundraiser not exactly considered an essential service and so may actually under the terms of a shutdown be illegal for the president to travel right now thats still being worked out so for now he remains behind me here very interesting well catch up with you again later in the day kimberly how kids at the white house thank you here with me shut down shut down shut down shut up shut your sister in there i mean its just going crazy to what is an ant really tell from this pictures that thats a map of the world behind but its the whole world and we have this literally what everyones talking about it is the biggest conversation worldwide more than a million tweets and counting so far but who shutdown is it if us twitter its a split vote the republicans are calling it a schumer shutdown referencing the Senate Minority leader the press secretary posting the official white house statement posting it here on the matter it reads this is the behavior of obstructionist losers not legislators when democrats start painting our armed forces and First Responders we will reopen negotiations on Immigration Reform during this politically manufactured schumer shutdown the president will fight for and protect the American People now on the other side of the twitter aisle you have folks calling it the trump shutdown blaming the president for not being able to pass a budget even when the Party Majority in the house and the Senate SenatorChuck Schumer himself responded on line with this video from the Democratic Party so tell me if you were president what would you do. Well very simply you have to get everybody in a room you have to be a leader the president has to lead here the democrats are going to be blamed and the republicans are going to be blamed i actually think the president would be blamed if there is a shutdown i think it would be a tremendously negative mark on the president of the United States hes the one that has to get people together and im going to be talking to the head of the house was the head of the senate whos running things in washington so i really think the pressure is on the president. Interesting there are now trumps all tweets are popping up again too in this case theyre being used against him like in two thousand and thirteen when he tweeted just shows that you can have all the cards and lose if you dont know what youre doing and he also tweeted saying that leadership he defines it as whatever happens youre responsible if it doesnt happen youre responsible if youre impacted by the shutdown in any way whether youre a tourist wanting to visit the monuments or a Government Employee want to hear from you you can write me directly at leo harding a. J. C. Or user hash tag right there hash tag a jane is good thanks leah and weve got a guest coming up in about will form a six minutes time to talk about the shutdown and Donald Trumps first year when you send in your questions for that hash tag a. J. Newsgroup as twitter as twitter says as leah says on to it it is at a. J. English you can reply to the tweets and pop them in the thread there at facebook dot com slash on to zero the live stream you can comment as you go there are producers looking for your questions on the whats at line is open plus nine seven four five zero one triple one four nine your comments your questions your contributions thank you for both now obviously a Government Shutdown is not what people want today and youd think its complete with saying donald trump especially given saturday is this one Year Anniversary of him taking office now there are any number of things we could talk about from this past year but were going to focus on america as a whole well maybe its the divided states of america because rarely in recent years has the u. S. Appeared so polarized on fundamental issues like race gender and prosperity correspondent alan fischer traveled to a state trump unexpectedly won in twenty six and pennsylvania to see how deep the divide really runs. Americas political waters have not run smoothly over the past twelve months the separation the divisions are very obvious some find it hard to clear the support for the president but even with a badge with his name i will wear to events you know republican events but to wear it out you know people sometimes treat you a little different weve spoken with many on stans a few times over the past year and early trump supporter she Still Believes hes doing a great job all we did was campaign and he told people what he wanted to do some people didnt like what he wanted to do and you know everyone expected that hillary was going to win and it was a shock to everyone that she didnt win so i think this was a much harder part of loss and i think thats why you know there is more of a divide when you pull published to mark one year since the inauguration shows the problem of one nation under trump divided three in four americans say the country is clearly divided six in ten say they dont have trust in the political system and six in ten say racial tensions have increased the divide is most notable with women tend to vote democratic among people of color theyre less likely to support trump but Bitter Division is nothing new i generally point to the election of eight hundred which i think is perhaps the most contentious of of all of our elections i think with perhaps. Some of the harshest dialogue and discourse that weve ever had in a president ial campaign we definitely have these periods of a real polarization and and and then we do we are able to come back from that are you finding people are engaged for many the rise of donald trump has made them confront the idea of political power and influence and to Work Together at the Community Level to change outcomes and this political moment where we are literally fighting for our lives where we are fighting to maintain any of the games that have answers weve made around health care or the environment. Or or or any kind of. Oppression efforts that were working towards i think it only apple pfizer urgency of now in just a few weeks there will be a special election in this part of pennsylvania for a vacancy in congress it will begin to get a great deal of National Attention it will be seen as a referendum on Donald Trumps presidency and it will again expose the deep divisions in americas politics. Donald trump has repeatedly said he wants to bring all americans together to work for the greater good but theres no evidence of that happening called reality as your two begins. Alan fischer aljazeera pittsburgh as we mentioned gender divisions have been a big issue in trumps first year really sparked by those crude comments he made about Sexual Assault and a videotape which was leaked during the campaign and so it was a day off to trumps inauguration millions of people took part in what was called the womens match it was massive as this map from al jazeera dot com shows you the hoth a Million People in washington d. C. Nearly half a million new york six hundred twenty five thousand in los angeles not to mention all those other cities on the map it was the big biggest single day of protest in American History and its happening again today rosalynn jordan is live at one of the marches in washington d. C. Early days i know right but whats expected today. Well this is perhaps going to be one of the smaller marches ironically only about five thousand or so people are expected to turn out here at the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to express not just their opposition to donald is the u. S. President but to also call for rights for bin and women and theyre also going to put this particular focus on getting women and i dont represent a minority hes involved in the political process the message has been for the past year that its not enough simply to say donald trump and republicans in Congress Acting against the wishes of the good at least of the population these supporters say that its more important to actually get involved in u. S. Politics and try to make change from the inside. Rosalyn jordan thank you for that well be catching up with rosalynn again a little bit later in the day and from the Lincoln Memorial we go to Lincoln Mitchell who is a political scientist and Research Scholar at the Arnold Saltzman institute of war and peace studies joining us via skype from new york thank you for your time link and lets start with the Government Shutdown first were still in the blame game territory as far as people actually go people in the United States looking at this do you think theyre worried about whose fault it was do you think they would just think about it on policy lines anyway is any of that relevant for going forward. I think that people in the United States are going to see this through a partisan lens this is so divided on partisan lines is so strong and United States right now and both sides can make a reasonable narrative you know the democrats are saying look the republicans dont care and the white house they control both houses of congress its their job to govern and they cant and the republicans are saying you know we needed ten out of about forty eight Republican Democratic senators to vote to keep the government open and they didnt so theres enough its not clear that its really one party or the other you know it is worth noting that there was a deal midday yesterday between Chuck Schumer the most important democrat here and donald trump and ultimately trump couldnt deliver. To mcconnell to make that deal with the democrats so somewhere down the line that deal fell through but theyre very close here but doesnt in this case the democrats as the Opposition Party as it were and its been the republicans in the past dont they often come across as looking like the obstructionist ones because they were putting demands to do with in this case immigration on to a bail about funding. Yes and it does kind of raise the question of how you think about obstruction right to the demands and we should be clear with specifically about the dreamers or the doctor people it was not about you know why did big Immigration Reform and this is an idea that is supported by a not insignificant number of republican members of congress by a majority of the American People so you think that to put that onto a spending bill wouldnt be that difficult it also was worth noting i think here if you take a step back its a reflection of kind of the sad state of american politics that Government Shutdowns are now just another parliamentary tool this feels like a big deal today i dont see the visuals because i have this reflection of myself on my screen but you know im sure most networks including yours are at the Lincoln Memorial right it is were some time youd be at yosemite or something but but if you were an american citizen your mail is delivered the military is still there if youre an older person youre still Security Check whos still getting here medicare and medicaid are still happening so if this drags on for even two full weeks most americans arent really going to feel this drags into you know much more that month then it will begin to have an impact so theres that how does all of this in the end sorry to interrupt you how does all of this in the end reflect on donald trump himself because it is a legislative issue it was about the house and the senate but you may well as saying these clips online already said i clips of him the thing is a guy saying hey it all comes down to the president in the end. Yes and to some extent the American People they look at the president they say things are going well i like that for things dont things arent dont now i think that even trump strongest supporters dont really believe he understands legislative processes and that has always been a drawback here hes you know no real experience and what he said in his campaign was im a deal maker what were learning now and frankly if you live in new york as i do just you know because my home you know this three years hes not really a deal maker nobody new york makes rules that you dont trump because doesnt keep his word he doesnt understand it go she ation so the deal making here he sat down with Chuck Schumer who has a long relationship with donald trump because of the new york context and they made an agreement and he couldnt keep that agreement because he could deliver to his own party and presumably because people got to him in the white house and said hey you cant do that because it was being it was essential he conceded on the dock a point so of course trump is responsible here and his tweets suggest that because when he says you know youre shutting down our great military the military is not affected by this if you are in the military your pay will be delayed but youre going to get but no one is saying hey american soldiers take off the uniforms put down your guns and go home were not having a military anymore thats completely disingenuous langton great to talk to you from new york today i thank you for your time. Hello there weve got a very active weather across the levant region at the moment we have some very strong winds that gave us a sandstorm for some of us in turkey and then we saw some very heavy downpours as well that weather is gradually edging its way eastward spiraling its way in easing a little bit as it does so as we head through the day on sunday it will be here making its way across parts of iran just giving us a few breaks of rain behind it theres another weather system thats working its way and thats going to be giving us some heavy rain there over parts of turkey and then its becoming slightly more intense for monday so looks very windy rather wet for some of us over the mountains rather wintery as well the steam ahead of it well thats bringing us more cloud over parts of iran would also bring an increase in winds as well but here in doha generally looking quite quiet our weather looking like its going to stay around twenty one or twenty two degrees as we head through the next few days malda forces will be up to around twenty six for the southern parts of africa you can see this area of time here working its way towards the south thats the remains of our Tropical Cyclone moving away from us now but we do have a little area of low pressure thats developing between mozambique in madagascar thats in hong seeing the rains here it really does look very wet its already been wet in the northern parts of madagascar for the last week or so we are likely to have more flooding. And plenty more for you to have a look at still that story about systemic racism in the top ten have a look at that and plenty more whats trending it out here in the. Egyptian president Abdel Fattah Elsisi has announced he is running for a second term remember he swept to power after leading the military coup to oust his predecessor Mohamed Morsy back in two thousand and thirteen and then won the election a year later with ninety seven percent of the votes. About infertility a lot of been today as a remember the sysop moment we have gone through and think about the serious challenges that face our home country and the huge expectations and the hopes we have for our homeland i find myself standing confused before my National Conscious as i speak to you with the honesty and transparency we have been used to in our dialogue and hope that you will accept me for the presidency of the republic. Well a number of parliamentary blocs have already pledged their support to mr sisi but what about his potential rivals well first of all youve got the human rights lawyer. He has been charged for making a rude hand gesture in public and if convicted in march will be jailed and therefore disqualified youve also got the army colonel med consoler who was arrested after announcing his intention to run he is serving a six year term for violating regulations which ban military from politics but many say ccs main challenger will be this man he is a retired armed forces chief of staff sami and then he announced his intention to run just an hour after the president on friday this election in march will be the third since the revolution that ousted Hosni Mubarak seven years ago the first poll after that was in twenty twelve you remember that was won by Mohammed Morsi from the Muslim Brotherhood he is now in jail after sisi led the coup to remove what was egypts first democratically democratically elected president back in twenty thirteen well more now on that former armed forces chief of staff and he says hell also run as we said and he called for state institutions to be neutral towards all candidates. Or october surely if i am elected to this historic position to save egypt belongs to the people i can all citizens to do their part in their responsibility to the nation. Or martha started down i can the countrys institutions both private and military to remain neutral towards all who have an ounce or candidacy and to not take sides of the current president this is against our constitution he is merely a candidate among other candidates good to have someone shouted back with us on the newsgroup associate professor of middle eastern politics at the university of oklahoma joining us via skype today some of you heard what some in and was just saying there he wants neutrality from the military and from everyone basically what chance of him getting that. I think its unlikely his candidacy of course a surprising and he was popular some time ago and i think he would look to be a popular safe alternative to the current leader but i do think its very unlikely based on everything weve seen in the last three or four years in terms of political space Civil Society freedoms and so on repression that this will be a fair and free election well when you look at the numbers from the last election and i just reiterate at them before ninety seven percent of the vote was what president sisi got and i suspect people probably looked at that thing then with a raised eyebrow is it likely then do you think that we would see Something Like that again i dont think so i think that of course in the previous election the in sabbahi was their supposed alternative and he really wasnt much of all an alternative at all and of course the circumstances were different then if this were really a free and Fair Election i think samiam and would have a chance but of course as you know there have been several other potential candidates that have tried to put in applications have declared their candidacy and have been harassed or disqualified or their disqualification is spending and that of klute includes of course ahmed shafik the former Prime Minister who came back from the u. A. E. And handed on the human rights and labor lawyer who has a you know case against him right now but he has some popularity among the youth doesnt it all look a little obvious then if all these potential opposition candidates systematically moved out the way whether it be an arrest for making a rude hand gesture or whatever it might be. Yes well i mean there is even some speculation i think among among those who are very cynical that even and the semi iman candidacy is a ruse meaning that it looks better to win an election when you have someone against you as opposed to winning with no one against you or with no credible candidate but the point is that i think its hard to believe that the state institutions that the media in particular in egypt the Security Forces will remain neutral and allow this to be a free and Fair Election i mean i think one would have to say that already its not a free and Fair Election if there has been intimidation and legal measures to limit the potential competitors that in itself kind of really goes to the lack of integrity of the environment in which an election will take place just quickly to look at it from the perspective of presidency and his supporters can he be credited with keeping things fairly steady in egypt in the last few years i know they have been a lot of attacks recently in places like the sinai but socially speaking the countrys been quieter i dont think one could reasonably make that argument however that is not to say that president sisi doesnt have his supporters he does have his supporters this it incredibly still all arised place with many people crediting him for exactly what youve said and many people seeing him as the antithesis to of course the Muslim Brotherhood and terrorism and instability and so on and so he does have his popularity and his supporters but i do not anticipate the election will be really free and fair sum as to how to pleasure as always thank you for joining us thank you. Fascinating want to found is there a documentary here to tell you about its called a family and it brings you the history and in a workings of the former president Hosni Mubarak as well as his wife and family it is billed as a tale of politics power ambition and greed i remember watching this actually a few years ago its a good one search for mubarak the family at aljazeera dot com second part is a bit further down the page there lebanese workers dismissed from the Construction Firm the oga protesting in front of the Saudi Embassy in beirut demanding unpaid salaries and compensation from the saudi government xenophobes there with this update. We are not begging we are asking for our rights this is the message former employees of the Saudi Construction Company oshea are making theyre standing outside the Saudi Embassy in beirut demanding compensation the company was forced to close in the summer of last year at these people didnt get any end of Service Payments and the company was in dire straits and they didnt receive any salaries for for almost two years so these people returned to lebanon with almost nothing there arent been able to send their children to school theyre demanding that the saudi government pays their juice to the company five billion dollars in order for the company to pay them their salaries now the company is not owned by the saudi government it is owned by the how do the families how to how do the lebanons Prime Minister so why do they blame the saudi government will they also blame. But if the saudi government pays the company that amount of money then they will be able to get paid and their salaries that this whole case really shows the deteriorating relationship between the new saudi leadership and sort of how do you do because saudi oshea the company was established by saddam how do you these father decades ago it was a very Profitable Company but now is the relationship between saddam the new saudi leadership has the two youre rated and i can tell you the fact that these people three thousand five hundred lebanese workers if they dont get paid saddle how do you lose the support hes going to lose votes in upcoming parliamentary elections so this is the feeling that saudi arabia is using this card against heidi for him to lose popularity of course we have to remember in the saddle how did he resigned while in saudi arabia and there were reports that he was being held against his will so a deteriorating relationship thousands of people caught in the middle of this and some of them even unable to send their children to school. E. O. Of connect safely dot org joining us via skype from palo alto in california to may larry certainly when i first read about the story i thought well this is flawed because its so subjective what is a high quality source someone might say al jazeera is a high quality source others will say no its not fox news as all c. N. N. Is or anything is its isnt this a bit flawed well not to not only that but there are many who might say that aljazeera isnt a high quality sure if it were because they are a part of the world and fan without having any idea of the quality journalism that that the your organization other organizations do and so yes there is the prejudice now i am encouraged by the fact that it faith survey and im hoping its not opt in they say that theyre its a representative sample so if they get a good job in family across the board then at least they would limit the kind of by if one might have an opt in fear of a room where lets say from News Organization could organize millions of its viewers or listeners or readers to you to go to that site and and fail yeah this is the most credible so thats an encouraging meant but youre absolutely right that simply to get something is well liked by a percentage of the public doesnt mean its reliable truth of truth and there are people who love new site that are objective lee untrue in that you know that doesnt require an opinion thats something that you can establish by fact but unfortunately this is the way they feel to be going about this century think they should actually release the results of this if i want to happens to have some transparency here. Yeah i think it would be helpful to have transparency im not sure what their plans are in terms of any information coming out and they keep experiment ing this is something that theyve been struggling with for a long time and it seems that no matter what they do they wind up getting pushback and then changing it i personally like the system they had in place several months ago where they went to reliable journalistic Fact Checking organizations organized by the pointer or institute which is a very reliable Journalism Organization but there are those who would claim that that fake knew that i mean there are people who think that the New York Times is fake news and thats in the eye of the beholder i guess but again facts are facts and i think its pretty easy for me at least know the difference between an organization that provides facts and those that make things up no opinions are different you can have left wing right wing thats all agenda mitt but theres a difference between opinions and fact of course larry magid pleasure talking to you as always this is going to be an interesting to one to watch thank you for your time thank you so much. M. T. Tonight on Al Jazeera English were going off the grid now with kenya take us there right so it involves a hospital and some patients at the can you add a National Hospital in nairobi to be specific there accusing staff at the hospital of rape and robbery alleged victims of abuse first told their stories in a Facebook Group they posted comments saying they were attacked robbed and even raped by hospital staff in hallways and in elevators some women say they were attacked on their way to check on their newborns now the hospital has denied the allegations and a statement it said it received no complaints or reports of rape by any patient and that the damning and untrue social media report is authorised in bad faith and the members of public of the public need to ignore it if been assured that the security and medical care of its patients is the hospitals priority. But the statement backfired in a way when the c. E. O. Said that the allegations were unlikely because breastfeeding mothers of pre term babies usually quote walk in groups she post them on facebook this user then responded saying that rape can happen at can not a National Hospital where mothers are nursing their babies and the only solution given to them is being told to walk in groups its infuriating this woman says then you have joshua he said that he expected that as a woman that cannot a National Hospital c. E. O. Would have taken firm action against those said to have raped patients but instead all she does is deny rape is an unacceptable violation and any community let alone in a Public Hospital he says kenyas ministry of health has taken action on twitter the Ministry Said that it inducted the can ya National Hospital to increase security measures to protect patients and their relatives and ordered investigations into the case the hospital must provide a report by monday january twenty second some are calling for a protest following the day after the investigation results are due to be released truth here is urging people to come out in big numbers on january twenty third well keep an eye on the story in the meantime if youre in kenya specifically in nairobi would love to hear from you you can get in touch with us or the hashtag a genius get it lee and we already have had a comment from hashimi just while you were speaking there he said im from kenya on this issue about women being such the highest in the hospital is not something new women and men. T. V. Buggies have been racing through thousands of kilometers of unforgiving to rein in three countries the race started in peru pass through bolivia before heading into argentina in the car cats response color science is on his way to winning the title for a second time it would seem well really first took place in one thousand nine hundred Seventy Eight starting out in the french capital paris with the finish line in dakar senegal just seventy four vehicle vehicles made it through the ten thousand kilometer challenge everything changed there in two thousand and eight when security threats along the route resulted in that race being cancelled as a consequence from two thousand and nine events has been in south america the race is infamous for its danger twenty eight competitors have died since its inception and forty two noncompetitive including spectators journalists and support staff have also lost their lives well joining us now from court of argentina is our correspondent daniel schweinfurt denigrates others have you with us again give us an idea of the scale of the race in the challenge of just making it through the events. Well it is as you mentioned an absolutely huge race go through some of the most difficult terrain really anywhere in the world the fourteen days of racing from the beginning in lima peru one day had to be canceled because of the weather conditions on the second day of the chords in the motorbikes were not allowed out again because of the weather conditions it was thought to be too dangerous you mentioned some of the casualties some of the fates ality is in previous years there thankfully been none in the two thousand and eighteen race or those several competitors have been airlifted to hospital with broken bones vehicles have been smashed of the three hundred thirty five competitors who left lima peru on the sixth of january many of them havent made it here to go to the bar theyve had to retire this a little short while ago we heard the supporters of the spanish race carlos signed who won in two thousand and ten they were celebrating just behind us as it seems a clinched the two thousand and eighteen title his main competitor stefan peter hunt so the french race whos won this race seven times crashed into a tree yesterday and lost valuable minutes in the race so a great deal of jubilation i think relief by many of the people here i mean huge support network has some of these trucks you can see behind me its an absolutely massive operation not just the three hundred thirty old competitors from all over the world but the support trucks the vehicles the supporters its absolutely enormous operation which is now as the final races across the finish line just beginning to pack up and start to prepare to go home. Daniel is there any desire to take the race arent so african or does it now seem to be established full time in south america. Well it does seem to be very much for time as you mentioned in the introduction it came here in two thousand and nine really as a temporary measure but i think the latin American South americans especially here in argentina have really taken it to their hearts i mean as we all know football is the main passion in argentina but here in the city of course its always been motor sport the set peoples hearts racing so theyve really taken to it with great enthusiasm bolivia peru previous years across into paraguayan big crowds turn out to line the routes and it seems that they absolutely love it they dont want it to go back to africa and africa in many ways still has those security concerns not ever did here but the dakar name is now a copyrighted marketing name and there are the dakar races being run around the world but i think the south american version of dakar is certainly here to stay and as they pack up here theyre already making plans for the two thousand and nineteen race down sean and quotable for us thank you so much for that daniel was a stunning moving and still images being shared on social media one of the unique selling points of the race this picture from the stage one pretty much captures the danger involved spanish driver christina gets heres a rare having a minor problem there in peru. That is the reality for many of the drivers at some point the prying his copilot optimistically getting that small kids out on stage for.
