Hello im sam is a than this is the news hour live from dell coming up in the next sixty minutes. What weve just witnessed on the floor was the son of god im sure a lot of democrats this will be called the trump shutdown the u. S. Government runs out of money but that may affect day to day lives less than you think. President claims its nerves reaction in Northern Syria is on the way signs of the ground a far from clear. Concern is rising over a plan to repair the tray hundreds of thousands of the hanger refugees to me and ma. And in sport the International Olympic committee confirms north koreas participation at next months olympics and chang twenty two north korean athletes will compete in three sports in the two koreas will march behind one flag at the Opening Ceremony. Obstructionist losers thats what the trumpet ministration is calling us democrats after the senate rejected a last minute vote to avoid a federal Government Shutdown its now in effect across the country with only essential offices and services staying open negotiations broke down over a deadlock on the status of young undocumented immigrants known as the dreamers particle hain reports from washington. This is not the end of verse three any leader wants to have it was exactly one year ago when donald trump made this promise and became president we will face challenges we will confront hardships but we will get the job done he vowed government would work again its clear with this. It isnt republicans who control the congress and the white house lost four of their own members but picked up five democrats still not enough to pass the bill that means many nonessential Government Employees wont be coming to work on monday without a deal although most essential federal services will continue the employees just wont get paid until its over it came down to this a program that was in place to protect children brought into this country without documentation President Trump threw it out and said congress should fix it he promised to help if we do this properly docket you know its so far away from comprehensive Immigration Reform and if you want to take that further step ill take the heat i dont care i dont care ill take all the heat you want to get. They brought him a bipartisan deal and he refused to sign it so democrats refused to help pass the budget now the white house is saying they still have the weekend to work out a deal i think it will be taken care of the money i can thats why i just said i think i really think theres a really difficult to. Fix the problem for the office of the future for now it is a standoff a functioning government held hostage while two parties wait to see which side the public will blame for the very dysfunction that trump promised to end exactly one year ago what weve just witnessed on the floor was a cynical decision by Senate Democrats or a shovel. Millions of americans for the sake of irresponsible political gash a Government Shutdown was one hundred percent avoidable this will be called the trump shutdown because there is no one no one. Who deserves the blame for the position we find ourselves in more than President Trump. Aljazeera washington or heres what happens now the Earth Government has officially shut down hundreds of thousands of federal employees will be affected by that impact will vary across the parliaments more than ninety five percent of employees at the Environmental Protection agency and Housing Department will be out of work only about fifty percent of workers at the treasury face that fate the u. S. Defense secretary says training maintenance and intelligence operations will be impacted about half of the Defense Department seven hundred forty thousand civilian workers will have to take a leave of absence if youre planning on visiting the u. S. Landmark tourist sites like washingtons famous smithsonian museums and the national zoo will be closed but Services Like border and Airport Security as well as air Traffic Control will continue the state Department Also says Visa Services at u. S. Embassies will remain as long as funding remains our White House Correspondent Kimberly Howard joins us live now from washington d. C. Its always a quiet day on a saturday in washington d. C. How much confidence is there they can make sure it doesnt become a quiet monday to. Well there is very little confidence right now it seems as patty reported there the both sides are in a standoff and that is certainly frustrating President Donald Trump who is in the white house behind me he had been scheduled to go celebrate the anniversary of his first year in office down at mar a lago in florida he canceled that trip its not clear at this time when he will be departing but what i can tell you is that he is taking his frustrations out on social media as he often does when he is angry at developments that he is watching in the news the latest tweets not just as you said at the top of the show from Sarah Sanders calling those legislators obstructionist losers but the president squarely blaming the democrats saying on the one Year Anniversary of my presidency democrats wanted to give me a nice president rather president hes also because this is an Election Year sammy in the United States Congressional Elections in november he is making the case that there need to be more republican wins so that he can govern particularly in the u. S. Senate where this shutdown really fell apart in terms of trying to prevent it there are now just fifty one republicans a majority but in one hundred seats senate thats not enough you need sixty votes to be confident that he can get some of his agenda through and so he is also making that case on social media and how is the blame game go blame game going down rather with the American Public. Well its really deteriorating as both the finger pointing from democrats republicans democrats calling this a trump shutdown republicans calling this a schumer shutdown because they say that the Senate Majority leader rather the Senate Democratic leader just was not willing to yield the bottom line is that i think this is a calculated gamble on both sides because the American Public did not want to see the Government Shutdown well majority of americans certainly support the immigration efforts of democrats they didnt want to see the government shut down as a result of it so the hardball that democrats have been playing right now is certainly a difficult calculation its going to come down to the American People who right now did not want to see this happen and may be blaming both sides for the im going to say function weve seen in congress now for almost a decade on good stuff there from kimberly how could washington d. C. Scott lucas is a professor of american and International Studies at the university of wyoming and he says continued budget uncertainty will have an effect well beyond the shutdown in this position because the trumpet ministration has not passed the federal government budget after one year in office it doesnt even have one ready to present so thats the core issue where its had to go again and again back to congress on this occasion for a fourth time to get supplemental funding how one can a federal government go without setting out its revenue and Spending Plans how long can it go without explaining how its going to pay for that one point five trillion dollar tax cut that it pushed through in december and the longer you have that uncertainty about the fundamentals of the government rather than the immediate shutdown then thats really whats going to shake International Investment plans decisions. The u. S. Defense secretary says the focus for his Nations National security has moved away from terrorism on to the competition between the great powers james mattis said the focus would be on countering chinas expanding military and an increasingly aggressive russia its the latest sign of shifting priorities in americas Defense Strategy jabbered townsend has more from washington d. C. General motors warned that washington was in danger of losing what he called its qualitative edge in weaponry against china and russia thats despite to the estimates that say that washington spends more than the next eight to ten countries combined on weaponry including russia and china this was the pentagons interpretation of the white house National Security strategy released last december and it reiterated the same points the change in emphasis to Great Power Competition from terrorism was the first point he made. We face growing threats from revisionist powers as different as china and russia or from each other nations that do seek to create a world consistent with their authoritarian models pursuing Veto Authority over and other nations economic diplomatic and security decision rogue regimes like north korea and iran persist in take an action that threaten regional and even global stability biol and extremist organizations like this or Lebanese Hezbollah or al qaeda continue to show hatred destroying peace and murdering innocents across the globe whats particularly striking about the pentagons Defense Strategy and the white house is National Security strategy is they completely contradict what donald trump said on the campaign trail that he would be putting America First that he would withdraw from international entanglements that the u. S. Would no longer be the worlds policeman its clear from these two strategy papers that both his defense secretary and National Security advisor dont agree turkish president i jumped out of the wireless told supporters as a party rally that a ground operation to take a kurdish controlled area of Northern Syria has quote de facto begun Turkish Forces have been amassing on the border near the syrian district of a free its held by the kurdish y p g which ankara considers a terrorist Group Artillery units have been shelling the area for several days while groups loyal to ankara have also been mobilizing in Eastern Syria near the town of Azaz Stephanie decade now joins us live from the turkey syria border so the turkish president says the ground operation has de facto begun how does de facto ground ops look like where you are. But weve just been moved away from from a location where were at about ten minutes from here you can see the Syrian Border still behind us you probably see a white wall thats the wall that turkey built so that syria the mountains but what we saw today sporadic shellys salming i wouldnt say a real intense hours of shelling tank fire two or three locations that were targeted that we saw there was sort of a build up of what looked like defensive. Barricades blocks concrete blocks bulldozers and gravel being brought into that wall where they were working before the military move us all in so you know when you talk about a ground operation you do think of troops moving towards a target what we are seeing of course is a buildup along the border and also a buildup inside syria with the Free Syrian Army this is the rebels that turkey backs that anger has made clear will be part of this operation but were not seeing at the moment. A move towards a freend so even though weve heard this word the practicality of it as of yet hasnt really changed what weve seen in the last couple of days i think the big question marks i mean still remains the russian factor we know talks are still ongoing with senior. Turkish and russian officials in sochi so i think the question mark still remains has russian given the go ahead because airspace again will be key to turkey wanting to use aircraft sort of start this operation to minimize casualties on their end if and when the ground operation does get into full swing how the talks made it clear what the goal what the scope of a ground offensive would be. Well yes weve heard it again today from the president from others officials throughout this week and since last year really that they want to clear the border of what they call terrorists as you mentioned that is they see that is the wipe they do hold often enough is pretty much surrounded sami turkey to the west and north rebels supported by turkey to the east and also to the south and you had president. Is a town still west of the euphrates now for a long time turkey has wanted the y. P. G. To move out of there just to briefly remind you last year there was a tense situation between Turkish Forces and the white b. G. Image and the americans sent in troops and vehicles to calm the situation so you can see the sort of spillover effect that that might have in the future and the president also mention that he was going to go and clear the wipe all the way to the border with iraq well that area is where the s. D. F. Operates this is where the americans say theyre going to set up this socalled border force even then they said its not a border force its internal security but anyway you can imagine its a very complicated situation with Different International players backing different sides allies backing you know sides that offend each other its very complicated so the implications of that i think its a message practically can the turks move to membered and further to iraq will be very very difficult all right stephanie becca. Russia has accused the us of trying to undermine efforts to end the war in syria washington has denied setting up of force along the turkey syria border made up of the Kurdish Syrian Democratic forces but turkey is not satisfied by the assurances and warned it could cause irreversible damage to relations now so has weighed in on the start of so using your moves for you is still trying to alternative bodies of authority on the force parts of the syrian territories that is a fact and that does contradict their own obligations now they have even more far reaching plans and will have to keep that in mind and try to find ways that would prevent them from undercutting the sovereignty of the syrian state plenty more still to come on the news hour pope francis makes a play to protect the amazon and its people during a trip to peru. And well look at this years sundance festival the service shadowed by discussion of sex scandals in hollywood and in sports Roger Roger Federer is a step closer to defending is this training an open title details. Its been a year since adam a barrow was sworn in as president of gambia ending two decades of repressive and economically damaging rule by germany the swearing in took place in neighboring so the guard troops were deployed to gambia to persuade germany to accept barrows victory in the election and step down but two days later german left gambia and is now in the equitorial guinea in the past year the treasury has seized about fifty Million Dollars of assets and frozen eighty Bank Accounts linked to him the new government inherited a country in a state of economic ruin with a billion dollars of debt barrows been trying to restore the faith of International Lenders has also said how to tackle the legacy of human rights abuses on the jammer nine former intelligence officials have gone on trial and steps are being taken to set up a truth and reconciliation and Repatriation Commission young cooper there is a gambian politician and human rights activists he says some gambians dont want the government to compromise with members of the ousted german regime. A lot of families who whose loved ones have been persecuted and have been on justly treated on the previous government they are seeking redress of down and they want to see justice but that seems to be contrary to contradict in the tone of the government which is about reconsideration they want justice but the government wants to see a real conciliation but obviously you can understand if a family had lost a brit we known to deprive your government and now struggling to meet their daily needs then it becomes an issue of how can they get justice because they are not going in compensation they lost that bridge breadwinner and he left a void in their life and they want to see some sort of repression of that the way to the truth and reconciliation would deliver that that is the hope of many but. A lot of people are seen to be very lenient they think that at least some form of which should be should ought to be taken against some of the perpetrators of the crimes on the damage or hunger refugees who escaped to bangladesh due to start returning to me in the next week six hundred fifty thousand the living in makeshift camps after fleeing violence and persecution over the past five months by the u. P. G. Forces is quote de facto began turkish army has intensified its shelling on the area and recent days and warned offensive is imminent. And pope francis has called for the protection of Indigenous People while visiting the heart of perus amazon forest the pope condemned the exploitation of timber gas and gold in the area is now on his way to a more proven region devastated by floods last year. Now in his first year in power president down trump has stripped away many obama era Environmental Policies his announcement last june that the u. S. Would pull out of the Paris Agreement met with world wide disapproval it left the u. S. Isolated too and has no clock reports from paris it was followed by a series of climate related disasters in the us devastating hurricanes to wildfires. I think youll be december two thousand and fifty the Paris Agreement is forged a historic moment twenty years in the making. That final accord agreed here in paris was a momentous achievement and a unanimous global effort. Of the obama years then things changed. The United States will cease all implementation of the nonbinding paris accord we dont all trans aphids to strip away the Environmental Policies it was predisposed to did not and that hes pushed to bring back mining jobs with as he put it beautiful clean coal hes opened the way for offshore Oil Exploration and his move to dismantle the u. S. Clean power plant. But then climate disasters that careered across the United States residents of california where its a rico and texas will need a reminder that two thousand and seventeen was unusually cruel property and livelihoods destroyed on a massive scale from harkens to wildfire the u. S. Was struck by sixteen climate and weather disasters in one year with losses according to one report exceeding three hundred six billion dollars we need to be careful not to attribute any one of these events to Climate Change per se its pretty clear that Climate Change is increasing the odds of extreme weather and events like those weve seen recently hurricanes wildfires etc ive not seen any real indication that the president is necessarily cognizant of that as cities and states have stepped into the federal void in the us to say were still in the Paris Agreement where here where and were not going away on the International Stage and president mackerel of friends make planet great again. Just this week macro a ceded to the demands of a long standing environmental protest and abandon plans for a new airport and western fronts in december he has to the one planet summit to raise finance to fight Climate Change donald trump is looking at this Climate Change issue as much more of a domestic politics issue than an actual scientific and National Security problem which he should be but in mandarin my coin is definitely filling that void since the United States is now not. A leader on Climate Change anymore donald trump has recently said he may yet stay in the Paris Agreement should the deal become more favorable but many say that hes never been able to articulate a criticism of the agreement that actually reflects what it says there would no doubt be huge relief should the u. S. Decide to stay within the parents accord but who knows which way the white house wind may blow the clock how does their parents live right is an assistant professor of Public Policy at Harvard University joins us on skype now from hartford in the u. S. State of connecticut good to have you with us first of all how of trump tweets changed everything from International Diplomacy to domestic politics. Well i think up here thanks for having me on i think one of the things that donald trump has done is hes become the twitter president which means that hes not only governing from the executive office hes also governing from his laptop from his blackberry and occasionally from his staff i phones what does this do well it means no longer is it kind of a rhetorical device or some kind of some kind of private citizen in gauging in the public stage but instead whats happening is that hes engaging all kinds of World Leaders oftentimes negative negatively through this this platform i think one of the things that its done is its changed the level of the relationship that Foreign Countries have with the United States so whereas with barack obama we had a standing and a formal standing in the world and we were seen as World Leaders in a number of different areas now all of a sudden we have a president who is intent on isolating the United States and leading internationally through fear that should be cause for concern not only in terms of isolationism versus internationalism but trump has actually changed the u. S. Stance on a number of issues and policies whether its to do with free trade immigration or nato hes either threatened or actually changed the u. S. Stance and some of those things how does that impacted what you know u. S. Is seen to be standing for in the world today. Well i think increasingly the United States the seen as an isolationist country donald trump made a very clear in his campaign he has made it very clear in the one year that hes been in office that his slogan make America Great again also means America First its been interpreted in a number of different ways domestically internationally i think its very clear what his message is recently what weve seen is that International Countries foreign leaders have said we can no longer rely on the United States looking and pointing to democrat erratic and kind of chaotic behaviors well just saber rattling and his upfront kind of forceful demand that the u. S. Not you know carries the burden of any of any by any other country even our allies and so weve seen a lot of World Leaders saying you know what we have to turn to other countries we have to provide the leadership ourselves on policy on Global Policy and issues on the nato and. Within the within the north within north america north American Free trade agreement its an interesting place to be and particularly camp in the last eight or nine years into the Obama Presidency where and the presidency made great efforts to become more of a Global Player in diplomatic relations i think you mentioned there i think stances changing policy how much harder is policy making becomes a Civil Servants in an era where its perceived that least foreign leaders just have to lavish praise on the u. S. President to win them over to the side. So whats interesting is that youve seen some countries i think some International Countries have recognized that the way to actually handle donald trump is to do exactly that to lavish attention on him praised. Kind of look to his people in his inner circle and treat him with kid gloves kind of like a celebrity and her partner perhaps part of that is the fact that his career has largely been in celebrity for the bulk of his life and other cases and i think this is this is important to watch you have a number of foreign leaders important powers who say that they wont do that that in fact the you know the initiatives the Global Programs the diplomacy the World Problems and issues are far too important to kind of put on kid gloves to deal with to deal with an erratic and powerful leader the other thing thats happened in the United States that i think were seeing that is actually not necessarily restricted to trump it has been a Long Time Coming is an increasing polarization in partisanship which is making governance almost impossible we prefer foreign leader in the white house to that has no idea. You know policy ignorant and posing government ignorance it really does shut down a lot of the things that we would expect from our leadership in this country and reminds us how important Civic Education is political education and education around governance and policy is just kind of small things like that as well what would it be going to fall than to have concerns that u. S. Policy or policy making may be more of a personality driven process rather than an institutional driven process. Well its certainly not institutional driven now the bigger concern i think there are two bigger concerns one is the fact that governance. Is kind of stonewall in a lot of ways the other part is that you have essentially a white house and executive office but also as a Congressional Group supporting party enabling that office that doesnt necessarily have an agenda beyond know what happens is the true things really combine to produce and in a session system where nothing gets done and were seeing that right now with the Government Shutdown you know trump is really driven by the Political Attitudes and opinions of his base which is a very small crosssection of the union of the country and because he is driven by that slowly slowly that means that bipartisan compromise putting things on the table just wont happen apparently there was an agreement last night with Chuck Schumer by person agreement they had reached an agreement and chuck went and the president went back to talk to his hard right who told him no compromise on anything and were talking about issues that theres widespread agreement and support for within the United States like the like champ and so the negotiations part that is deeply concerning in a moment like this where things actually have to get done the last clinton and make it that republicans will control all printers of government right now they control the executive office they control congress the senate and the house of representatives and some ways to control the Supreme Court the judiciary and what were seeing is that theres an inability to get any done and that should be deeply deeply concerning interesting analysis thank you for. Later on saturday will have one else special of seventeen hundred g. M. T. Looking back at Donald Trumps first year in office what to expect in his second here. Community run conservation project in northern kenya is working to keep young and vulnerable elephants safe now locals are also stepping in to help save the elephants are working to improve their own livelihoods for me the miller has more. This two month old coffee is like any other baby she demands constant attention but a few weeks ago it was so near almost drowned in a flooded river in northern kenya shes now at this Elephant Sanctuary where russia linnen yak it is helping to settle her after the rescue all of the cars here have either been abandoned or lost their mothers to draw out poaching but unlike any other sanctuary this one is entirely community owned. You know nikkei is from the some blue tribe there are nomadic herders who rely on goats sheep and camels to help provide a livelihood before. Their communities do dislike. But for now they come to really start. Some benefits or benefits linnea kid goes on to say that what kept the century means a better life for many here and so his community appreciates the animals more. Money from tourists who visit the sanctuary also helps to provide local villages with much needed water health care roads and Financial Assistance for students the sanctuary is run by a board of trustees made up of elders who employ local people to work there in a new case says these days people from surrounding villages are increasingly helping with conservation efforts Community Members are often the ones tipping off the sentry when theres an animal in need. After a cough is rescued its support to the sanctuary and kept separate from the other coughs for five days once the keepers know the new elephant is healthy its introduced to the nursery and its temporary family the sanctuary falls under the number conservancy which is home to about fifty thousand people the cymru of always lived with. Its estimated that between five and ten elephant calves are rescued in northern kenya each year while the return of the century is just over a year old keepers here say their conservation work will leave a lasting impression from aljazeera some poor accounting of thousands of students have protested outside the hungary and parliament calling for improvements to the Education System the protesters also demanding greater flexibility in Educational Opportunities Prime Minister viktor orban is nationalized the School System and sat tight controls on the publication of textbooks facebook is launching a survey for members to identify new sources that a trustworthy chief executive Mark Zuckerberg wants to prioritize what he calls high quality news he says theres too much sensationalism and misinformation in the news stream the firm is not expected to release the results of the surveyor. The thirty fifth annual Sundance Film Festival is underway in park city in the us state of utah its the worlds leading showcase for independent film this is event has been overshadowed by the industrys recent scandals over Sexual Misconduct. Folds. This years Sundance Film Festival comes at a moment of cultural change one of the main topics of discussion the fallout from the Harvey Weinstein Sexual Misconduct scandal the rise of the me too movement and the demands for more representation by women in the Film Industry is kind of a Tipping Point because its changing the order of things so that women are going to have a stronger voice and i think the role for women to be able to step forward and exercise their voices more and more i think is a really wonderful thing and i think the rule for men right now would be to listen about one third of the nearly two hundred films presented here this year are by women directors including holiday a film shot in turkey whose swedish director says women everywhere are fed up with keeping secrets as an artist i hate censorship in at any time and it was a kind of thought like no thats too private thats too easy thats too we had we dont want to know the films lead actress victoria sun is part of the me too movement i spin right now and theres a lot of. Females really taking this very seriously documentaries on view here at the festival include biographies of women who fought for their rights and an unflinching look at gender disparities in the Film Industry. Arvi g. s the bio pic of pioneering female lawyer in the us Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader ginsburg im so proud of all of the women who have had the courage to speak out seeing all read is a portrait of the powerful womens rights attorney gloria all read first of all strategist and publicist Kathleen Mcinnis is an advocate for female Film Industry professionals we have celebrity thats the thing that we have thats different than the other industries i think a lot of the Hospitality Industry i think that the Service Industry they are invisible almost to a lot of people we dont have invisibility we have celebrity which has a lot of visibility visibility and now more power to accomplish change robert oulds aljazeera park city utah. And then youll smith rousey is a film critic in historian he says last years sex scandals in hollywood have opened up the way for more female directors in the industry. Female to the male lead in male directing films are going to be in taking even more seriously this year than they might have been asked certainly i mean we did see this incredible you know wonder woman you know that was directed by one and you know and that was the number two domestic film of the year Award Winning the other two top domestic and of the year at least you didnt last and i were also you know led by women think that sundance will eventually have sort of a trickle up effect you know as these as more of these women filmmakers because people like Patty Jenkins thats where they came from you know and eventually they just blockbusters they have to be directed by somebody. Still ahead an hour just zero in this for the womens tennis world number one survives an epic one hundred forty two minute follow set to reach the fourth round in melbourne. History is so often told through the eyes of leaders but in amritsar india just thirty kilometers from the border with pakistan this old building is being transformed into a new museum Mallika Ahluwalia is the driving force behind sars partition musial its really shocking because if you think about the fact that within a few years of nine eleven happening nine eleven museum was there and there are now numerous holocaust museums its not beautiful a museum so countries around the world have walked to memorialize these events that have shaped them by dition is not about the political events that led up to partition its about the impact on each person who went through it its really important that we highlight the stories of humanity hopefully one outcome on this would be that we remember our shared humanity and the shared history. Or i suppose files for us have to get us all cults off thank you so much sami one of the Worlds Toughest off road insurance events will and later on saturday a stage around the argentinean city of cordoba or bring the dow car rally to its conclusion over the last two weeks cars bikes quads two. And u. T. V. Baggies have been racing through thousands of kilometers of unforgiving terrain in three countries restarted in peru and pass through bolivia before heading into argentina our correspondent daniel swine liar is that start line on the final day in cordoba and daniel how has the race been so far. As you would expect from something as grueling as you just mentioned nearly nine thousand kilometers through some of the roughest to rain on the planet there have been crashes there have been people airlifted to hospital thankfully no. This year but it has been an incredibly grueling race with the more than three hundred thirty competitors who started in those five categories you mentioned many of them have fallen by the wayside the last races the remaining races left from here the football stadium in cordova very early this morning then theyll completing the last stage two hundred eighty six kilometers one of the shortest stages of the race the organizers will say as always its been tough its one of the Biggest Challenges to the many male and some female races out there but it has gone remarkably well were still waiting to see who the winners of the five categories will be there were some very clear contenders people well ahead of the thirteenth stage ended yesterday so really was waiting now for those races to finish the race and clock those final times ok so its called the dhaka rally back dakar is in senegal so why is that race taking place in south america again will it ever go back to africa do you think. Well this is the tenth year that the race has been run in the south america usually starting in argentina its included chile bolivia peru power acquired the reason it left africa after it started in one nine hundred Seventy Eight running the original route from paris to dakar was because of security concerns at the end of two thousand and seven that for french tourists were killed by an out linked group in mauritania where the race was due to run just a few weeks later the two thousand and eight race was cancelled two thousand and nine it moved to south america to argentina as a temporary measure but it really seems to have taken the whole there a great enthusiasm in the region especially here in cordoba as we know argentina is a football mad nation but not so much here in color the motor sport is their passion is what sets hearts racing really in many ways it feels like here motor sport has come to a natural home its very difficult to see how it will go back to africa that the car is now a brand name of the races being run in different parts of the world but i think in many ways the dakar rally is in south america to stay but are south americans do they embrace the race so there have there been any concerns. What there always concerns i mean just look at some of these support vehicles behind me how can several hundred competitive cause enormous support for us founders through some of the most delicate ecosystem anywhere on the planet and not cause some kind of environmental damage the organizers will say that all measures have been taken that they have talked to the countries involved. Groups to try to ensure the minimal amount of damage that they do clear up after themselves but of course with this many vehicles traveling through the south americans the rain there are obvious Environmental Concerns safety concerns which again the organizers will say they keep to a minimum Something Like seventy competitors and spectators have been killed in the race since it started in one nine hundred Seventy Eight as i say no fatalities this year but that always is a concern always something youre going to say they are trying to minimize but yes there is opposition but americans do seem to take into the race with great passion and as i say doesnt look as though its here to stay ok yes indeed thanks so much for that danielle well speak to a bit later the International Olympic Committee Says north korea will send twenty two athletes to next months winter games in neighboring south korea delegates from north and south korea have been meeting with i. O. C. Officials at their headquarters in the us than the athletes from north korea will compete in three sports and five disciplines at the pyongyang games and both koreas have also agreed to march under a single flag at the Opening Ceremony im sure that this will be a very emotional moment not only for.
