Janice always thought she had terrible luck with money and it caused her to worry. “It was impossible for me to save for emergencies. I just don’t have much income.” It’s hard to feel like your livelihood and home are secure without any savings.
That all turned around thanks to a program that was designed to help Hawai‘i’s ALICE residents—people just like Janice. ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed and it’s a new way to define and understand the households that earn above the Federal Poverty Level, but not enough to afford a bare-bones household budget.
