Like many Albertans, I headed out to the mountains one recent weekend, struck again by the forces that created these mountains and waterways.
Albertans’ reaction to the rescinding of Lougheed’s Coal Policy was visceral and continues to reverberate beyond our borders. According to David Luff, a consultant who worked on the 1976 coal policy, its creation included a process, years of work, and significant public consultation. Even with the temporary reinstatement, the trust that a new policy will include good stewardship of the land and water is low.
