AHMEDABAD: If you need a number to contact any online business, do not rely on Google or you may get scammed. Anamika Divakasingh of Narol found this out the hard way. The 25-year-old who googled for the number of an online grocery delivery service, ended up in the clutches of cybercrooks and got cheated out of Rs 50,000.
The victim, who works in a private firm, told police that she had ordered some goods through Grofers on August 15, 2020.
“When she opened the app in the evening, she realised that the goods were shown as delivered but she had not received it. So, she found a number of the service on google and dialled it. The man at the other end told her that the order had been cancelled. Offering her a refund, he asked her to download a link and send him the One-Time Password she received. Anamika did as told and received a message that Rs 50,000 had been deducted from her bank account,” said cybercrime cell officials.
