After harrowing ordeal, Rep. Joe Neguse to play key role in impeachment trial

Rep. Joe Neguse (D-Colo.) had been prepping for weeks to defend Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 presidential race, one of four Democrats deputized by leaders for the Jan. 6 debate on the electoral college vote.
Just four days into his second term, Neguse was so focused on his brief as he spoke early that fateful afternoon that he had no idea what was happening outside. Then security personnel whisked House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) from the rostrum, and soon afterward lawmakers were crouching on the floor of the chamber and donning gas masks as rioters started banging on the chamber doors.
