The African American Cultural Society is located in Palm Coast at 4422 N. U.S. Highway 1. The luau featured Rob's Jazz Express with Rob Whiting on Guitar, Ray Callender on Trumpet and Melvin Smith on saxophone. Colorful Hawaiian clothes were worn, and tropical drinks were served.
Blanche Valentine, cultural center administrator for the African American Cultural Society said the organization considered doing a virtual concert at the beginning.
“But people were being bombarded with Zoom meetings and conference calls," Valentine said. "We didn't think people would actually embrace a Zoom concert. We’ve been closed for 15 months. So we thought it would be a good time to have a soft-reopening. We wanted to just help everybody shake off their pandemic doldrums. So we waited until the CDC lessened its restrictions.”
