The AFL's highest paid players have been revealed with the top earner bringing in $1.5 million a season despite having failed to help his team win a premiership.

However the 'back-ending' of contracts - in which players get paid more in the latter years of their deals as the salary cap expands - meant few players had to take paycuts as a result, and several pocketed more than $1 million a season.
