Department of Labor and Industry Acting Secretary Jennifer Berrier continued her One Fair Wage campaign this morning with a virtual forum that highlighted inadequate minimum wage for tipped workers across the state.
In Pennsylvania, the current wage for tipped workers is $2.83, but Berrier said that it is just not enough to live on.
Berrier highlighted Gov. Tom Wolf’s plan to eliminate tipped wages with an increase in the statewide minimum wage to $12 an hour. She cited that tipped wages could lead to racism and discrimination, and that workers who earn these wages are at an inferior standpoint to fight back.
