On Wednesday’s Backchat we’re taking a look at how best to support teens who question their gender identity. A recent case at an international school made the news, after a counsellor allegedly encouraged a girl to transition to a transgender male while hiding this from her parents. Reports say the girl ultimately decided against transitioning, and was moved to a different school. This case highlights the difficulty in helping teens who may suffer from gender dysphoria – where they feel they have a different gender identity from their biological sex. What roles should teachers, parents, and counsellors play? Are they sufficiently informed about this very complex matter? And who can they turn to for help? After 9:45 …we’ll speak to the Mask and PPE Organisation to get their reaction on the scrapping of the mask mandate.
