ABC has ordered a pilot of a reboot of The Wonder Years.
The new version focuses on how a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama made sure it was “’the wonder years’ for them, too,” amid the turbulence of the late 1960s. Lee Daniels is executive producing the reboot with help from comedian Saladin Patterson, who’ll write the script.
The original series co-creator Neal Marlens will consult on the show, and Fred Savage – also known as Kevin Arnold on the original – will executive produce and direct the pilot.
Coincidentally, YESTERDAY (January 31st) marked the anniversary of The Wonder Years debuting on ABC. Josh Saviano, who played Fred, posted this on Twitter:
