The past few years have seen a growing tempest swirl around the so-called International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance, or IHRA, definition of antisemitism.
The IHRA definition, which had been adopted by dozens of countries and countless universities, associations, labor unions and NGOs, was considered controversial in some quarters for allegedly chilling criticism of Israel by labeling it "antisemitism."
While the IHRA confirmed that "criticism of Israel similar to that leveled against any other country cannot be regarded as antisemitic," critics contended that its language was too vague and prone to abuse.
