More than three decades after Hurricane Andrew exploded across southern Miami-Dade County, a Texas-based homebuilder called Onx has set up shop in Pompano Beach to help assemble houses that it says can withstand Category 5 hurricanes. The firm is building hundreds of homes annually for buyers in South Florida, Orlando and the Fort Myers area. The location of the company's first South Florida project: Homestead, which was among the localities that saw countless homes and other buildings ravaged by Andrew. The company plans to complete 700 homes for sale this year in Homestead, as well as in Central and Southwest Florida.
