HAS AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH THE MAN NOW AT THE CENTER OF THE INVESTIGATIO HALEY: FIRE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATORS BELIEVE THAT OCTOBER FIRE WAS INTENTIONALLY SET. IT’S ONE OF TWO RECENT FIRES AT THE COMPLEX AT 80TH AND TROOST. >> 911, STATE YOUR EMERGENCY. HALEY: TWO DOZEN FAMILIES HAD TO ESCAPE THE FIRE. >> THERE IS A FIRE OUTSIDE MY APARTMENT. IT HAS FILLED MY ENTIRE APARTMENT WITH SMOKE. HALEY: JUST 3 NIGHTS BEFORE HALLOWEEN -- >> I’M STANDING OUT ON MY BALCONY. I’M OUT ON THE THIRD FLOOR. HALEY: BUT THE SCARIEST PART -- >> YOU SAID YOU’RE TRAPPED IN THERE? SAID YOU CAN’T GET OUT? HALEY: -- THE FIRE MAY HAVE BEEN SET. >> ON A FRIDAY, I SMELLED GAS. IN THE MORNING A LITTLE BI HALEY: STEPHEN BRIEBY WAS RENTING A UNIT ON THE THIRD FLOOR. IN NEWLY OBTAINED INVESTIGATION RECORDS, WE’RE LEARNING FIREFIGHTERS BELIEVE THE FIRE WAS INCENDIARY IN ORIGIN. BREIBY TOLD INVESTIGATORS THAT DAY, HE COULD SMELL NATURAL GAS, SO HE GRABBED A BLANKET AND LEFT. TWO HOURS LATER, BREIBY WAS AT A CHURCH PARKING LOT A COUPLE BLOCKS AWAY WHEN HE GOT A PHONE ALERT TELLING HIM HIS APARTMENT WAS ON FIRE. LAST FALL, BREIBY TOLD ME THE NATURAL GAS SMELL HAD BEEN THERE FOR DAYS LEADING UP TO THE FIRE, WHICH HE REPORTED TO MANAGEMEN SHARING THIS BRIEF VIDEO OF WHAT HE SAYS IS A LEAK IN HIS UNIT. IT’S ALL PART OF THE INVESTIGATION INVOLVING THE ATF AND KANSAS CITY’S BOMB AND ARSON SQUAD. >> GET SOME HELP OUT THERE AS SOON AS WE CAN. WE’RE ON THE WAY RIGHT NOW. HALEY: MONTHS LATER AND NO CHAR
