8-year-old girl shot in head dies, charges against sibling expected to be updated

SOUTHFIELD, MI -- An 8-year-old girl who was shot in the head earlier this week has died. According to Fox 2 Detroit, the girl died after spending several days in the hospital following the shooting which took place Sunday evening.
The girl’s brother, 20-year-old Gyasi Stribling was charged Wednesday with assault with intent to do murder and felony firearm in connection to the shooting. Those charges are expected to be amended by the Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office now that the girl has died.
The shooting took place at an apartment complex Sunday night around 7 p.m. Police have not shared much information regarding the shooting, including details on why Stribling allegedly shot the girl. The Southfield Police Department is expected to hold a press conference on the shooting in the near future.
