The Texas Department of Public Safety says a motorcyclist was seriously injured when he crashed into a Port Arthur Police Department patrol car on Monday evening.
Sergeant Stephanie Davis said the officer was stopped at the intersection of Regional Drive and Central Mall Drive when 77-year-old Donald Leroy James, of Nederland, was traveling at an unsafe speed, lost control of the bike, and crashed into the police unit.
Davis said the motorcyclist was rushed y ambulance to St Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont for emergency treatment of his injuries.
DPS investigates fleet accidents involving municipal or county vehicles so that the entity involved can avoid a possible conflict of interest.
