LEESBURG — Seven area residents were among the state’s latest reported deaths attributed to COVID-19, according to the Florida Department of Health.
The fatalities, which occurred in the last three available reporting cycles — Friday, Saturday and Sunday — raise the area’s death toll to 373, including 271 residents of Lake County and 102 from Sumter.
Details about each local death was not immediately available, due to the state transitioning to a new method of reporting deaths on the DOH website. Neither DOH office in Tallahassee or Lake County have responded to emails seeking information about the local deaths.
The most-recent deaths accompanied an increase of 615 confirmed cases in Lake and Sumter counties, combined, in the latest updates. Since March, when the DOH began issuing daily updates on the spread and impact of COVID-19, Lake County has reported 12,291 confirmed cases and officials in Sumter have confirmed 4,015 cases.
