6-year-old killed in accidental shooting at Shelby County home

A 6-year-old was shot Monday, May 17, 2021, when a 3-year-old found an unsecured weapon at the Shelby County home.

A child was killed Monday morning in what authorities say was accidental gunfire between two children.
The shooting happened on Goldilocks Lane in the Maylene community, according to Shelby County sheriff’s Maj. Clay Hammac. The shooting happened about 10:30 a.m. at the Longmeadow mobile home community.

Few details are being released at this time. Hammac said two children – ages 3 and 6 – were involved in the incident. The 3-year-old found an unsecured firearm in the home and accidentally discharged the weapon, he said.
