The year 2020 disrupted the way we viewed life in general and health and wellness in particular. The change, some good and some bad, has unleashed an interesting array of trends that promise to not only boost your immunity but also do their bit for the environment.
Forget Pre and Pro-biotics, go for Postbiotics
According to Preeti Seth, nutritionist, cosmetologist and founder of Delhi-based Pachouli Wellness Clinic, pre and probiotics are so last season. The current buzz is about postbiotics to ensure good gut health. “Prebiotics are the food for probiotic bacteria, and both are essential for optimal gut health. Now we’re learning about postbiotics—the metabolites (or end products) of the fermentation that goes on in the gut by probiotics. Postbiotics are being studied for anti-inflammatory and antioxidant benefits and may also help bolster the immune system and improve the gut barrier,” explains Seth. So what food can postbiotics be found in? Sourdough bread and kimchi. “In 2021, we’ll be seeing postbiotics in supplement form as well and will also likely see them added to food products.”
