Republicans haven’t won a federal race in Hawaii since 2010, when Honolulu Councilman won a free-for-all special election for the 1st District with 39% while two Democrats split 58% of the vote. But Djou was defeated in the next regular election and Democrats have dominated since. Hawaii’s map has remained virtually unchanged for over five decades, with the 1st District anchored by Honolulu and the 2nd District taking in the rest of Oahu and the Neighbor Islands.
