Two suspects have been arrested for allegedly killing off-duty metro police officer Mzuvukile Mhlengi who was shot dead outside his home in Philippi East, Cape Town, on Wednesday.
Western Cape police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said tip-offs had resulted in two suspects, aged 39 and 49, being apprehended in Kraaifontein and Lower Crossroads, respectively.
"The vehicle of the deceased was also found in the possession of one of the suspects," he added.
The mayoral committee member for safety and security, JP Smith, said the City of Cape Town was devastated by Mhlengi's murder.
"Constable Mhlengi was unarmed at the time of the incident," Smith added. "He was stationed at the metro police control room in Goodwood, and had 19 years of service with the department."
