Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday afternoon after a civilian helicopter crashed on the runway at Griffiss International Airport in Rome, according to the Oneida County Sheriff's Office.
It happened at 1:47 p.m. during an attempted landing, and there were three people aboard at the time, deputies said.
The aircraft was being piloted by Deekpak Dherny, 69, of Rome, who suffered minor cuts to his head and face, deputies said.
The front, left passenger, Charles Lewis, 53, of Lexington, South Carolina, had a shoulder injury and minor cuts and was transported by AmCare Ambulance to Rome Health, officials said.
