ALMOST three million pounds in damages was paid out following serious mistakes in care at the trust that runs Winchester hospital, new figures reveal.
There were 30 successful claims of clinical negligence against Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (HHFT), who also run Basingstoke and Andover hospitals, in 2019-20.
Legal costs related to these claims totalled £349,442, with the number of successful claims against HHFT up by 11 per cent in comparison to the year before.
Someone can bring a claim against an NHS trust if it is believed they, or a family member, suffered harm or died due to negligent treatment.
In addition to the above, data from NHS Resolution, which handles such cases on behalf of the NHS, reveals that a total of 40 clinical negligence claims were filed during 2019-20, as well as six further incidents that could result in a claim.
