18 Months Ago, Lauren Paquette Changed Everything About Her Training

Her cross-country move and new training group has helped her build endurance and confidence for her third appearance in the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials.
While the COVID-19 pandemic has inspired many re-evaluations and major life changes, pro runner Lauren Paquette got a few months’ head start. In December 2019, after years of training alone, Paquette, then 33, moved halfway across the country to join the Hoka Northern Arizona Elite (NAZ Elite) training group
The shift seems to be working. Last August, she ran a 66.2-second final lap to outkick teammate Kellyn Taylor and win the women’s 5,000 meters at the Under Armour Sunset Tour in Los Angeles. Her time, 15:10.01, was nearly four seconds better than her five-year-old personal best.
