Spencer, IA (KICD)– A small gathering came together outside Sacred Heart School in Spencer on Monday to recognize the students and staff for their role in environmental education.
Clay County Conservation Naturalist Brianne Blom says the Sylvan Runkel Award was originally given to Spencer Sacred Heart in 2019, but the pandemic kept the actual recognition from happening until this week.
Principal Amanda Woodall tells us one of the main projects Sacred Heart is taking part in is having a colony of bees housed on school grounds from funding that was secured by former Sacred Heart cook Kay Rose.
