PRR is biggest green-killer; Metro and road-widening projects follow
Bengaluru that is just recovering from a severe shortage of oxygen it faced during the peak of covid, is all set to lose a total of 60,200 trees — for just 10 infrastructure projects, including Metro and the peripheral ring road (PRR). While these projects are planned to reduce traffic congestion and help commuters, the environmental impact of these solutions appear toned down as assessment reports are prepared separately for each project.
Officials state that no project gets a go-ahead without the nod of relevant authorities, especially with regard to axing of trees and compensatory plantation.
