SEATTLE, Wash. — Experts say the 8.1-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of New Zealand Thursday will not impact Washington.
An initial alert from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said tsunami waves have been observed as a result of the quake and warned that some of those hazardous waves could hit some coasts.
But Whatcom Emergency Management Deputy Director John Gargett says that there currently is no impact predicted for Whatcom County.
The Washington State Emergency Management Division says there are no current watches, warnings or advisories issued for the west coast of the U.S.
