In addition to $1,400 stimulus checks to qualifying individuals and families, the March stimulus bill included a bigger child tax credit, as well as extensions to the additional $300 unemployment checks. The law also added a $10,200 tax exemption for people receiving unemployment insurance benefits. 
Unemployed individuals can receive a weekly $300 bonus check until Sept. 6. Many states have automatically renewed unemployment insurance benefits, but some recipients may have issues when they reach the benefits year ending, or BYE, date (PDF). States limit benefits to one year, and the money is typically cut off after that date. The American Rescue Plan extends that unemployment insurance, but states require recipients to either file a new claim or an extension. It varies from state to state and those who have been unemployed for a year should get in contact with their state's labor department.
