As the floodwaters started to go down on Monday morning, Nothando Ndebele was able to get down the flooded street to see her home for the first time since the storm struck.
“We’re used to having rain in Westport. We saw the water coming, but thought it’d be fine.
“We left Friday night, thinking Saturday morning, we’ll be back in the house.”

When her husband went back to check on it on Sunday, he had to brave chest-deep water to get inside, and it was up to his knees throughout the house.
