Bugün de ev ve kürk hayvanı olarak kullanılmaktadırlar.Türler Kısa kuyruklu çinçilla (Chinchilla brevicaudata) Uzun kuyruklu çinçilla (Chinchilla lanigera)KürküÇinçilla'nın, bu soğuk iklim tavşanının kürkü, santimetrekaresinde 25.000 adet kılla hayvanlar arasında en sıkı kürk şampiyonudur.Karşılaştırma yapmanız açısından 25 yaşında bir erkekte 600 adet/cm² saç olduğunu hatırlatalım. Bu inanılmaz yoğunlukta, her bir folikülünde 60-80 adet kıl-saç bulunan kürk iki katmandan oluşur.
