Detailed description is A joint initiative between Manchester Metropolitan University and the University of Manchester designed to hear and learn from young people who hear voices & their families to further understanding & develop services.
Funded by @MMUHPSC & @FBMH_UoM Hearing voices is a common experience for children and young people and does not usually cause distress.
Almost one in ten children hear a voice or voices at some stage during their childhood and the experience is often not a sign of wider mental health difficulties..

Over the next few months, clinical psychologists and researchers Dr Sarah Parry and Dr Filippo Varese will be working closely with expert-by-experience groups and NHS children's services to develop a greater understanding of what tailored support is required for young people who hear voices and their families..

Sarah explains: "Although many people hear voices at some stage in their younger years, little research involving children and their parents/guardians has been done to look at the impact of these experiences for families.
We know that young people often require different forms of support, compared to adult voice-hearers, and we are keen to hear what young people and their families would recommend, what they have found helpful, and perhaps what assumptions need to be explored further"..

Senior members of the research team, Professors Tony Morrison and Rebecca Lawthom, will also be supporting the development of the project, with a view to expanding the work over the next twelve months.
This project is currently sponsored by a collaborative funding venture between the University of Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan University, a joint initiative to promote further exploration of important issues relating to people’s health and wellbeing..
