Detailed description is Barockschloss und Welterbe Die ehemalige Residenz der Würzburger Fürstbischöfe, 1720 bis 1744 im Rohbau entstanden und bis 1780 fertig ausgestattet, gehört zu den bedeutendsten Schlossanlagen des Barock in Europa und zählt heute zum Welterbe der UNESCO. Die Planung wurde dem damals noch jungen und unbekannten Architekten Balthasar Neumann vom ersten Bauherrn, Fürstbischof Johann Philipp Franz von Schönborn, übertragen. . . Für das weltberühmte, von Neumann stützenfrei überwölbte Treppenhaus schuf 1752/53 der Venezianer Giovanni Battista Tiepolo das Deckenfresko mit den vier Erdteilen. Das insgesamt 18 x 30 Meter messende Gemälde ist eines der größten einteiligen Fresken, die je gemalt wurden. . .
