Detailed description is Offering degrees in Sustainable Agriculture, certificates in Sustainable Livestock and Crop Production, and workforce development courses to the community.
The Western Piedmont Community College Sustainable Agriculture program is a 2-year AAS curriculum.
Located in the shadow of Table Rock and Hawks Bill mountain, we teach individuals to become agricultural producers through a diverse curriculum that emphasizes experiential learning, leading edge farming technology, and community-based small business development.

A 50 acre student farm is located on the main WPCC campus in Morganton, NC.
The farm functions as an outdoor classroom, research facility, community demonstration center as well as a working farm.
Facilities include a southern heritage apple orchard, a black truffle orchard, small fruit fields (brambles, blueberry and service berry), an herbal and camellia tea garden, a medicinal and culinary herb garden, a market garden, hoop house, solar greenhouse and ~20 acres of crop fields.
Various student-built farm structures serve as processing and storage facilities.

In addition to crops, the WPCC farm is home to various livestock.
Our Nubian dairy goat herd is a community favorite and our matriarchs, Ivy and Rosie, preside over two generations of their kids and grandkids.
Four Shetland sheep generously provide fleece for our animal fiber production classes.
To keep all of our animals honest, we have Shotgun the guardian donkey.
He takes his job very seriously and also contributes power to move our mobile chicken coops and turn our century-old sorghum cane mill.

We are also home to certified breeding flocks of critically endangered Partridge Chantecler and Red Dorking chickens.
In partnership with the Sustainable Poultry Network, we have developed a complete breeding program where we hatch chicks, select breeders and raise birds for meat and egg production.
The whole operation is pasture based and animal welfare certified through SPN.
We were awarded Breeder and Grower of the year in 2013 and continue to develop our excellent program by following the American Poultry Association Standard of Perfection.

The program instructors, Chip Hope and Meagan Roberts, share a passion for creative sustainable farming and love their work.
Along side farm manager Todd Rudicill, they have over 40 cumulative years of agricultural, small business and livestock production experience.
They also have close ties with WNC agricultural organizations and farmers and can assist students with internships and job placement.
