Why We Created WIB.

Although there are many professional women’s organizations on campus, a club for business women have not yet been established.

One of our objectives include teaching networking skills to business majors.

When looking for a WIB advisor, we noticed a major disparity in the number of male & female business professors.

It turns out that there is only one female professor out of our 12 accounting professors at UCR ..

We realized that the need for WIB goes beyond just creating a business network for women.

It is our job to combat and spread the awareness of gender gap in business all over the world; it even exists here in an esteemed institution such as UCR!.

Initially, we wanted to create a chapter of an existing WIB; however, there is no national organization.

However we had a great resource to help us through our process - the ladies of Harvard Women in Business were crucial in assisting us to create this organization .

They have been around for 16 years now so are well established on campus, & we tried to model our organization around some crucial pointers that they gave us.

A future plan for the members of WIB at UCR is to take part in Harvard WIB’s annual Intercollegiate Business Conference.
