Detailed description is Wingate University’s Department of History and Political Science is the second largest in the Cannon College of Arts and Sciences, featuring seven full-time faculty.
The Department plays a critical role in the teaching of Wingate’s critically acclaimed core course curriculum.
Our faculty instruct three of the six required courses, and the Department educates the largest number of students annually.
We are proud of the role we play at Wingate and the breadth of disciplines, fields and time periods covered..

Each of our faculty specializes in a different region of the world: Dr.
Billinger in European history and politics, Dr.
Ellis in comparative political science, Dr.
Hastings in South Asian history, Dr.
Hino in African and Middle Eastern history, Dr.
Hoefferle in American, British and women’s history, Dr.
Hyland in Latin American, migration and global history, and Dr.
Krajewska in immigration and politics.
Faculty members use a variety of research and teaching methods, bringing a wide range of perspectives to our topics.
All of us have lived outside the United States at some point in our lives, and eagerly bring our global perspectives to our study of history and politics..
