I’m Meredith Jordan: a happy jewelry designer; a psychotherapist in private practice for many years; a lifelong gardener; author, photographer, teacher, quilter and knitter with a creative spirit that takes a new form every decade or so. (If I’d known then what I know now, I might have gone to art school!). . I now live on the river in Exeter, New Hampshire with my wonderful companion Tashi, a charmer of a labradoodle, who is now asleep at my feet after her morning walk. I have three absolutely wonderful grown children all in the helping professions, and two incomparably dear grandsons who just fill my heart to overflowing. Yes: I am a fortunate woman.. . The one constant in this changing life is my love of all things beautiful. I first fell in love with lampwork beads, collected them till I ran out of shelves and containers, and then decided I should figure out what to do with them. My first jewelry-making class had me hooked from the git-go.. . Eventually I semi-retired as a therapist and devoted myself to the practice of cultivating beauty: gardens, jewelry, all things that make the world a brighter and happier place. I love the instructions of the Navajo people to always walk in beauty.. . For now, I’m happy to sit with the windows open and the river breezes brush my face while I bead my happy little heart out.. . When I wear my own creations even to the most ordinary errands through my everyday life, I feel more beautiful, and that’s what I hope for you too. Every one of my Wild Woman Bead jewelry designs has been created by using only 14K gold-filled or sterling silver earwires, headpins and accent or spacer beads. All bracelet toggles or clasps are also 14K gold-filled or sterling silver. All are handmade in Thailand by the Karen Hill Tribe or silver craftsmen in Bali, where silver work still prospers.. . The beads are a work of art before they are incorporated into a jewelry design. I first started this work because I fell madly in love with the beauty of the beads themselves! Each bead is made by melting and mixing different glass rods to create the intricate range of colors you see in the beads. No two handmade beads are ever alike.. . And what I love most about them is that they’re made by women all over the country (and the world) who have learned this art as a means of supporting their families in hard economic times. Behind the creation of every bead, there is a story of a family which has thrived because the women in those families, challenged by times such as these, became an artist.. . I’m fascinated by the way each piece instructs me as I go. If the beads don’t come together just right, they immediately “tell” me to re-design the piece. When I have it right, the beads breathe a big sigh of happiness and say, “Ahah!”. . Each piece truly is a one-of-a-kind work of art from melting the glass to the final stage of creation.
