ตั้งอยู่ใจกลางเมืองอัลบูเคอร์กี้ มีเนื้อที่ตั้งวัดประมาณ 2 ไร่ครึ่ง.
วัดพุทธโสธรวิเทศ ได้จัดตั้งขึ้นโดยคณะชาวพุทธไทยแห่งเมืองอัลบูเคอร์กี้ ซึ่งได้ไปปรึกษากับท่านอาจารย์ พระมหาวินัย ปุญญญาโณ เจ้าอาวาส วัดพรหมคุณาราม เมืองฟินิกซ์ มลรัฐอริโซน่า(ปัจจุบัน พระวิเทศพรหมคุณ) และคณะกรรมการ สมัชชาสงฆ์ไทย ในสหรัฐอเมริกา เพื่อขอให้ส่งพระสงฆ์มาดำเนินการจัดตั้งวัด ประจำมลรัฐนี้ สมัชชาสงฆ์ไทยฯ โดยท่านอาจารย์พระมหาวินัย ปุญฺญญาโณ ได้พิจารณาให้ท่านพระมหาสุนทร จนฺทวํโส พระธรรมทูต สังกัดวัดพรหมคุณาราม เมืองฟินิกซ์ มลรัฐอริโซน่า เป็นหัวหน้าสงฆ์ (ปัจจุบัน พระวิมลพุทธิวิเทศ) ทางคณะชาวพุทธไทยได้ร่วมประชุมและหาสมาชิกประกอบด้วย ชาวพุทธไทยในพื้นที่และต่างรัฐ พร้อมผู้มีศรัทธามาเยี่ยมลูกหลานที่มาศึกษาอยู่สหรัฐฯ และชาวอเมริกัน ชาวลาว ชาวศรีลังกา และชาติอื่นๆ.
แรกเริ่ม พ.ศ.
2537 (1994) ได้เช่าบ้านแลขที่ 3920 Lafayette Dr.
NE.
Albuquerque, NM 87107 เพื่อเป็นที่พำนักสงฆ์เป็นที่บำเพ็ญบุญ และเป็นสำนักงานเพื่อหาทุนสร้างวัดอย่างถาวร ประมาณ 8-9 เดือนให้หลัง คณะสงฆ์และกรรมการ ได้ร่วมประชุมเพื่อหาทุนสร้างวัดอย่างถาวร.
การหาทุนและการสร้างวัด.

ทางคณะกรรมการ ได้รวบรวมทุนทรัพย์ ซึ่งได้รับบริจาคจากผู้มีศรัทธาทั่วไปได้จำนวนหนึ่ง จึงได้ติดต่อซื้ออาคารคล้ายห้องประชุม (มิใช่เป็นโบสถ์ฝรั่ง) ซึ่งประกาศขาย มีอาคารที่จะทำเป็นโบสถ์และกุฏิที่พักพระสงฆ์เป็นสัดส่วน มีเนื้อที่ประมาณ 1 เอเคอร์ (2 ไร่เศษ) อยู่ใจกลางเมืองอัลบูเคอร์กี้ ราคา 160,000 ดอลล่าร์ ได้ติดต่อตามขั้นตอนของการซื้อขาย และที่ยุ่งยากสำหรับการสร้างวัดไทย คือต้องขออนุญาตจากทางราชการ (City) เพื่อทำเป็นวัดและการขอเข้าอยู่อาศัยของพระสงฆ์ (มิใช่ซื้อแล้วจะเข้าอยู่ได้เลย) ปรกติวัดของฝรั่ง ทำพิธีเสร็จเขาจะกลับบ้าน แต่วัดไทยต้องมีพระอยู่ประจำ เรียกว่าเปลี่ยนจาก Church เป็น Monastery (ถ้าที่นั่นไม่มีบ้านอยู่ก่อน) .
เมื่อทางราชการอนุญาตให้พระสงฆ์เข้าอยู่ได้ จึงตัดสินใจซื้อ เมื่อวันที่ 1 มิถุนายน พ.ศ.
2538 (1995) ในราคาหนึ่งแสนหกหมื่นดอลล่าร์ คณะสงฆ์ได้ทำพิธีเข้าอยู่อาศัย เมื่อวันที่ 28 กรกฏาคม พุทธศักราช 2538 (1995) จัดให้มีพิธีกรรมทางศาสนาเหมือนวัดไทยทั่วไป.

สถานที่ตั้งของวัดอยู่ในที่อันเป็นสัปปายะ กลางใจเมืองอัลบูเคอร์กี้ เหมาะแก่การเป็นวัดอย่างถาวร ลักษณะอาคารเป็นรูปตัวแอล ( L ) ทำเป็นอุโบสถ 1 หลัง และเป็นที่พัก 1 หลัง ( 5 ห้องนอน 1 ห้องรับแขก 1 ห้องครัว 1 ห้องฉันอาหาร 4 ห้องน้ำ และ1 ห้องสำนักงาน) มีลานจอดรถเพียงพอต่อการบำเพ็ญบุญ ตั้งอยู่ระหว่าง สมาคมสตรีและสมาคมผู้สูงอายุ ใกล้มหาวิทยาลัย, โรงพยาบาลของรัฐ, สนามบิน ใกล้ร้านอาหารไทย-ลาว และใกล้ฟรีเวย์สาย 25 ตัดกับสาย 40 ได้จ่ายหมด ( Pay off ) เมื่อวันที่ 14 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ.
2540 (1997) วัดพุทธโสธรวิเทศ มีเอกสารสิทธิถูกต้องตามกฏหมายของมลรัฐนิวแม็กซิโก คือเป็นองค์กรไม่แสวงหากำไร.
วัตถุประสงค์ของการสร้างวัดพุทธโสธรวิเทศ.
