This includes care of neck and back disorders, deformities, fractures, sprains, and muscle and nerve injuries. It also includes sports medicine, arthritis care, and pain management. The men and women who care for you are part of our family of specialists. Many have worked together for thirty years. The musculoskeletal team includes Orthopaedic Surgeons, a Neurologist, a Neurosurgeon, a Chiropractor, Physical Therapists, Orthopaedic Physician Assistants, certified x-ray technologists, athletic trainers, manual therapists, McKenzie certified therapists, massage therapists, and strength and conditioning specialists. Our philosophy is that a close collaboration between these musculoskeletal specialists results in safe, effective, and raid solutions to musculoskeletal problems.. . We are independent of hospital ownership. Our physician team works closely with two great hospital systems, the Bon Secours Hospital System and the Sentara Hospital System. However, we believe that independence empowers innovation and benefits our patients.. . . The Musculoskeletal Center at Wardell Orthopaedics is a new 20,000 square foot facility designed specifically for the musculoskeletal patient. The Harbour Rehabilitation Unit within the Musculoskeletal Center contains more than 6,000 square feet. A large gym area overlooks a scenic lake. The modality area enables the physical therapy team to perform ultrasound, laser, electrical stimulation, and other passive therapies. The balance center includes a Biodex Balance System SD machine and a video area for use of the Wii Fit and Kinect for X-Box which provide computer based enjoyable balance and exercise programs. A testing area for computerized goniometry and dynamometry objectively assesses the patient's progress towards recovery. A chiropractic area, designed by Dr. John Barone, supplements the physical therapy treatment area.. . With the sports medicine expansion at the Musculoskeletal Center, adding an additional 4,200 square feet, the clinical area now has a total of 24 exam rooms which include four ultrasound laboratories, a neuroscience lab, two x-ray suites, a procedure room, and cast rooms.. .
