Uludağ Üniversitesi, Bursa’daki ilk üniversite olarak 1975 yılında "Bursa Üniversitesi" adıyla kurulmuş bir yüksek öğretim kurumudur.
1982 yılında çıkan kanunla "Uludağ Üniversitesi" adını aldı.Bünyesinde 11 fakülte, 3 yüksekokul, 15 meslek yüksekokulu, 1 konservatuvar, 4 enstitü, 19 araştırma ve uygulama merkezi ve Rektörlüğe bağlı olarak kurulan 5 bölüm bulunmaktadır.Tarihçe ve KuruluşBursa'da 1970 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesine bağlı olarak kurulan "Bursa Tıp Fakültesi, üniversitenin temelini oluşturur.
1960 yılında Bursa Organize Sanayi Bölgesi'nin kurulması ile şehirde yaşanan sanayi ve nüfus patlaması sonucu Bursalı aydınlar ve iş adamları bir üniversite kurulması ihtiyacını hissederek 1969 yılında "Bursa Üniversitesi Kurma Derneği"'ni kurdular.
İlk olarak bir Tıp Fakültesi kurulmasına karar verildi.Bursa Tıp Fakültesi, 1970 yılında İstanbul Üniversitesi bünyesinde Çapa Tıp Fakültesi içinde 50 öğrenci ile eğitime başladı; fakültenin ilk dekanı, Fikret Karaca oldu.
Fakülte kendi kullanımına verilen Bursa Göğüs Hastanesi'nin (bugünkü Yüksek İhtisas Hastanesi) onarımından sonra Mayıs 1974'ten itibaren eğitimi Bursa'da sürdürdü.
O zamana kadar her yıl Bursa Tıp Fakültesi adına 50 öğrenci İstanbul Fakültesi'ne alınmış ve eğitim görmüştür.
Aynı dönemde, Bursa'da Üniversite Kurma Derneği, İzmir yolu üzerinde 17.km'deki Görükle arazisini üniversite kurmak için uygun alan olarak belirledi ve istimlak işleri yürütüldü; bu arazi üzerinde Tıp Fakültesi Hastanesi'nin temeli 1976'da atıldı.Bir üniversitenin kurulması için filen en az iki fakültenin varlığı gerekiyordu.
1974 yılında Ziraat Okulu'nun ek binasında 100 öğrenci ile Nurhan Akçaylı yönetiminde "Bursa İktisadi ve Sosyal Bilimler Fakültesi"'nin kurulması ile bu şart yerine getirildi.
1 Nisan 1975te çıkan yasa ile Uludağ Üniversitesi 2 fakülte, 20 öğretim üyesi, 250 öğrenci ile “Bursa Üniversitesi” adı altında eğitime başladı.
Bir süredir Tıp Fakültesi'nin dekanlığını yürütmekte olan Ömer Fethi Tezok, kurucu rektör olarak seçildi..
