Detailed description is The University of Delaware Alternative Spring Break program immerses student-led teams in direct service and experiential learning with community organizations to increase knowledge of social justice issues and encourage life-long active citizenship.
UDaB is now in its sixth year.
Over the first year, spring break of 2011, 92 students and 12 student leaders traveled to five communities to pursue service projects related to homelessness, food scarcity, disaster relief, outdoor education for urban youth, and trailbuilding in a national forest.
More than 3000 hours of service work was completed by the participants, and through the passion and determination of these students, our group now is looking towards the future.
UDaB is in the midst of its fourth spring break, has sent out 8 trips, and hopes to continue building a sustainable infrastructure that will give the program the momentum to be successful for years to come.
