Detailed description is The University of Alaska's Sitka Student Government Association represents the student body and brings the UAS Sitka community together.
The mission of the Student Government Association (SGA) is to support the student-community campus culture, educational needs, general welfare, and rights of all University of Alaska Southeast – Sitka Campus students.
Working collaboratively with students, staff, and faculty, the SGA helps develop programs and support systems that reflect diversity, instill self-resilience, leadership and responsible action, and enrich the educational, social, political, and cultural life of the campus and the community at large.
Programs that are supported by the SGA help provide a variety of activities and programs that foster an atmosphere of opportunity for students to develop in a nurturing educational environment..

Sitka students are represented by the United Students of the University of Alaska Southeast – Sitka Campus (USUAS-SC), or the Sitka Student Government Association (SGA).
This organization is comprised of an elected board including the President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, a Public Relations officer, and four senators/representatives..

Student Government (SGA) advocates on behalf of the student body and participates in the shared governance model of the University.
