Dünya çapındaki uluslararası değişim organizasyonlarının en köklüsü ve en profesyoneli olan AFS’nin tarihi Birinci Dünya Savaşı öncesine kadar dayanmaktadır.. . Bu yıl 60. kuruluş yılını kutlayan AFS Kültürlerarası Değişim Programları’nın temelleri, Birinci Dünya Savaşı’nda Amerikalı genç gönüllülerin Fransa’da gönüllü ambulans şoförlüğü yapmaları ile atılmıştır. İkinci Dünya Savaşı’nda ise AFS gönüllüleri; Avrupa, Suriye, Kuzey Afrika, Hindistan ve Burma’da görev yaparak barışı kültürlerarası bir anlayışla desteklemeye savaş sırasında olduğu gibi sonrasında da devam etmişlerdir.. . 1947’de 10 ülkeden 52 lise öğrencisinin Amerika Birleşik Devletleri’nde misafir edilmesi ile AFS, 16-18 yaşları arasındaki lise öğrencilerine yönelik bir program haline gelmiştir.1971’e kadar öğrenciler sadece ABD’de misafir edilirken bu yıldan sonra bu öğrenci değişimi dünya çapına yayılmış ve böylece AFS uluslararası bir organizasyon halini almıştır. . . Bugüne kadar AFS Kültürlerarası Programları’na 300.000’den fazla kişi katılmış olup, aynı sayıda aile de AFS öğrencilerine kalplerini, düşüncelerini ve evlerini açmışlardır. Ayrıca bütün dünyada 750.000’den fazla gönüllü, programın başarıyla yürümesi için zamanlarını ve enerjilerini adamaktadırlar. . . Bugün AFS Programları dünyanın 60 ülkesinde yürütülmektedir ve Kültürlerarası Değişim konusunda önemli bir lider konumundadır. AFS Kültürlerarası Öğrenci Değişim Programları, Türkiye’de Milli Eğitim Bakanlığı’nın onayı ve işbirliği ile 1952 yılında beri yürütülmektedir.. . Her yıl ülkemizden dünyanın 39 değişik ülkesine yolcu ettiğimiz AFS öğrencilerinin yanısıra, dünyamızın dört bir yanından ülkemize gelen yabancı öğrenciler de vardır. Amacımız, her sene artarak bu yıl için 28’e ulaşan konuk edilen öğrenci sayımızı daha fazla gönüllü aile ve okul ile iletişime geçerek bu sayıyı arttırmaktır.. . . . .
