Detailed description is A love of Southern Ohio’s natural beauty and friendly people was instant when Terri Mikesh, a native of Waterloo, Iowa, moved to Ohio in 1990 to accept a coaching position with Ohio University in Athens.
Terri has been a Ross County resident since 1993 when she began her career as a trooper with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP).
She was very fortunate to spend almost twenty years of her OSHP career working with dogs, as a canine handler and later as canine training sergeant.
Terri’s experience working with animals has been a huge asset to her photography, as she is able effectively photograph animals in their natural habitat by utilizing her extensive understanding of animal behavior and perception.

Terri retired from OSHP in 2015.
In addition to her photography, Terri is the commander of the Southern Ohio Police Training Institute and an adjunct instructor in the Law Enforcement Technology undergraduate program at Ohio University – Chillicothe.
In 2015, Terri decided to pursue a dream of really understanding photography and has worked continually to develop and refine her skills through classes and field experiences with professional studio and wildlife photographers Jerry and Barb Jividen.

Terri opened Traces of Nature Photography in late 2015 so she could share her lifelong passion and appreciation of nature, animals, and photography with others.
