Tom began his music studies on the piano at age ten, and at the age of sixteen, he got his first guitar.
While in his twenties, Tom played in and led various rock ensembles influenced by bands such as The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Yes, Bob Marley and The Wailers, The Grateful Dead, and The Allman Brothers.
In his early thirties, Tom discovered the jazz music of John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Charles Mingus, and many others.
It was the role of the bass player in the jazz groups of the 50s and 60s that really caught Tom’s ear, and he went on to get a Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Arizona with the String Bass as his primary instrument and piano his second instrument.
Tom moved to the Chicago area in 1999, and furthered his guitar education at the Frank Rumoro Jazz Guitar Academy in Chicago.

In 2002, Tom embarked on a full-time music teaching career, helping students achieve success on the guitar, piano, and bass.
Many of Tom’s students have gone on to play in rock bands, become songwriters, and play in school jazz ensembles.
Tom enjoys working with students of all ages and skill levels.
In the spring of 2013, Tom and his wife decided to relocate to Western Massachusetts.
Over the course of the last eleven years Tom has helped hundreds of aspiring musicians achieve their musical goals.
Tom is extremely happy to bring his instructional expertise to his new studio in Orange, MA..
