Detailed description is It all started with one rabbit, Thumper...we bought him just down the highway from our home. Little did we know he would start such a love! Our original herdsire, and start to our rabbitry, was Thumper. We bought him from Jeanette Johnson, not too far down the road...he was an unexpected diamond. Jeanette had purchased a number of rabbits from Rocky Altic, before he passed away, and Thumper was directly out of Altic stock. <3 We didn't know what we had until quite a while later. . . The next unexpected blessing came as an ad on our county's 4-H page. Someone was selling off a lot of rabbits, and I happened to catch "2 white Flemish" in the long list of breeds. This time we drove Up highway 36 to Trenton. We found 2 lovely, huge white does. They were approximately 18 mos old, so already getting fairly old for never having kits...but I couldn't pass them up. I paid $40/doe. It turns out that these littermates are out of Smalley, Casel, and Cooks lines! I'm so thankful I went ahead and bought both does!! These girls were truly a blessing. <3. Even though the girls were nearing 2 years old, we went ahead and bred Dee Dee (D02) to Thumper...Thank God, because we lost Thumper very soon after the litter was born. Dee Dee had a litter of 10 big, healthy babies. Dilly - who has already earned his Championship by 8 mos, Dally - who has 2 legs toward her championship, but unfortunately there are never enough steels at shows..., and Dainty, owned by Tonya Taylor in Texas, has earned her championship as well! These are the 3 I'm aware of...I'm not sure about the show records of the others sold. We have also kept Poppy, a white buck, from this pairing, but he seems to be taking his own sweet time filling out his massive frame. I wish so badly we could repeat that breeding. Thumper made impressive babies. <3. . Dee (D01) we bred to a lt gray buck we had purchased from Gene Gillespie (Cook's and Casel lines as well), Killintime. We were surprised to have 6 out of 10 babies be steel! Our light gray doe, Matilda, is out of this pairing. At 6 mos, Matilda had 5 championship legs, and earlier this month, she won our first Best of Breed (all varieties), at the MO Rabbit Breeders Convention in Sedalia, MO. I'm excited to see how her siblings fare this spring, at the shows.. We also kept her littermate brother, Ted Cooper, who is a steel. He's slower maturing than his sister, but exhibits great potential...even if he is a bit ornery right now.. . We have added a few other animals to our family, from other breeders, as well. . . Licorice: Glorious black doe from Doc Hall. Tink: Lovely light gray doe, also from Doc. Tony: Our Big-Butt Boy from Tonya Taylor. and Dink: She's a long light gray doe from Dink Archer, who carries some of the same lines as our Gillispie buck, Killintime . . I'm looking forward to combining these animals into (hopefully) a family of consistently typed animals. I wish I could make it my full time job - unfortunately, the rabbits don't feed themselves...and neither do my children. :/. . If you have any questions on specifics, just ask! . .
