It is one of four high schools in the Thompson R2-J School District, along with Loveland High School, Mountain View High School, and Berthoud High School.AthleticsThompson Valley hosts 24 varsity sports, as well as a club hockey team, and a water polo team, which have not been declared varsity sports.CheerleadingIn the 2009–10 cheer season the team won first place in the 4A State Championships in Colorado and fourth place at regionals.

The following year, the team captured the 5A state title, only the second state title in any sport in the school's history.
In 1995 and 1996, the team took second place each year at the state meet, finishing behind crosstown rival Loveland High School.
In 1997, the team claimed their second team title at the Class 4A state meet.
